    Re: Will you choose freedom?

If , as the article says, "Freedom is saying what needs to be said", then I say 93 Sonoma Coumty residents have lost their lives due to Covid-19. Of course, you may argue that statistic, as stated elsewhere in Wacco, is made up and not real. Maybe you might say the Pandemic is not real. I say, then why are all these folks dying? Something is going on and, personally, I'd rather err on the side of caution than risk winding up dead. It's not that I'm too young, I'm just having too good a time right now. Of course, that will change if T. Rump (Tyranntosaurus Rump) is re-elected or steals the election. I don't know about you, but I've lost faith in America and it's institutions - the media, the Internet, the Post Office and the whole damn government, to name but a few. I choose to get the message that people are dying most where they congregate together and, at least, take some precautions. If you don't, Good Luck.

    Re: Will you choose freedom?

Ok grandad, my daddybilly told me as a teen when we moved in to care for him that the world is in a handbasket to hell. Only now can I agree. I had gone to college by the time he died, but by then I don't think he was afraid of death, his son and daughter in law showed him the exit. To be afraid of death, and in that mindset avoid all risk we can, is not living. The number needed to die in soco for herd immunity is 500. We in westco have not done our part. To disparage freedom in an effort to give old foggies a few more years is autocratic nonsense. Watch as the panicdemic meme disintegrates over the next few months. Covid might kill you or me. Is today a good day to die?

    Re: Will you choose freedom?

A recent article in Science indicates that herd immunity (community immunity) may be achievable with a lower percentage (about 40 percent) of a population than the generally accepted percentage (about 60 percent).
    https://science.sciencemag.org/content/369/6505/846

Because the population of Sonoma County is approximately 500,000 even at 40 percent approximately 200,000 people would have to be infected. Even at a conservative mortality rate of 1 percent approximately 2,000 people would be expected to die, not 500. And that does not consider the many more who would have serious long term adverse effects.

If I have freedom, I choose to prolong the happy state I'm in now which doesn't depend on the outside world. When I have proof of the "herd immunity" theory, maybe I'll rethink things.

If you want freedom and truly believe in the herd immunity theory, let me suggest that you have a large party and invite all of your like-minded friends and one person who has the disease and get real close to everyone. Put your money where your mouth is. You want freedom for you, but you deny it to me. I may be an old fogey, but I still have the ability to think and I think I'll choose my own fate, thank you.

Also, this old fogey wants to at least stay alive to vote against the incumbent in the coming election.

Right now it's looking like herd immunity will not be possible because the virus can and does keep mutating. That's why people who have already had it are getting reinfected. It's a lot like our annual influenzas in that regard: one vaccine won't stop them all.

    Re: Will you choose freedom?

I just read the article in full. It presents a very distorted view of the current social and political situation. It alleges that the "pro-lockdown" element has intimidated those opposing lockdowns from expressing their views. This is disproven by the many demonstrations that have occurred protesting lockdowns as well as by politicians who have opposed lockdowns and other restrictions, including the wearing of masks. The article states that the alleged intimidators claim that if their side loses an election it is because the other side cheated. However, it is the primary figure supported by lockdown opponents, President Trump, who has alleged being cheated even though he won the election.
