As most (if not all) or you probably know, our democracy is currently being threatened by a concerted effort from the top to slow down and disrupt the United State Postal Service. The current Postmaster General has directed the removal of multiple postal sorting machines, the removal of many large blue postal drop boxes, the reclassifying of election mail from first class to third class, as well as reassigning a number of administrative postal public servants. The excuse for these drastic actions has been “cost-cutting”, but Trump himself has admitted that he is trying to interfere with mail-in voting in November.
Several local activists have taken the initiative to show their support for our Sebastopol Post Office by tending to the unsightly grounds nearby. While doing this, they came up with the idea of having our own local demonstration in support of the U.S. Postal Service. A “Photo-Op” has been scheduled for this coming Monday, August 17, at 8:30 a.m.
Everyone concerned about this threat to our beloved postal service is encouraged to show up to demonstrate your support at 290 S. Main St., Sebastopol, with a sign, if possible. Your sign should proudly declare our immense appreciation for the unflagging essential services provided by our Postal Service and the critical role our Post Office will play in the coming election. Beautification help is also needed so you may also want to bring your weeders, loppers, and clippers. Also, don't forget a hat, colorful shirt, and your mask.
Please spread the word to your local contacts. We plan to invite coverage from the Press Democrat as well as Sonoma West Times.
