Cannabis: Spiritual Friend or Foe (12/17 Common Ground)

Amidst all the hoopla regarding the legalization of pot, this article in Common Ground: "Cannabis:Spiritual Friend or Foe" by Stephen Gray sticks out. It's a well balanced article, referring to the euphoria of pot, as well as it's potential dysfunction. As Shaman Mariano da Silva is quoted "It's a transcendental effect ... but if I use it every day I don't feel this kind of effect from it anymore".

This has been my experience with it. It was incredibly difficult for me to break a 10 year daily habit in my 20's. It always seemed to promise more than it delivered. Today, the high of an occasional toke is balanced by a hangover the next day. It's a drug. Moderation is key.

    Friends or Foes?

So many drugs, so little time.
Coffee and sugar come to mind.
But let's not forget to bring on the wine,
along with other spirits that make us feel fine.
Add to that mix a few pills here and there,
and we get results that can be hard to bear.
Let's talk dysfunction, hangovers and hard to break habits! Anybody?

I just read this article. It is the most spiritual approach to cannabis of the many articles on cannabis that I have read. This article is wise counsel. I picked up a free copy outside Whole Foods in Sebastopol.
