The banning of GMO crops initiative needs a little money right now. Please donate today.

    Hi folks,
As some of you know, the Citizens for Healthy Farms and Families' amazing group of volunteers has gathered enough signatures to add the initiative to ban the growing of GMO crops in Sonoma County to the November 8 ballot. But the County Supervisors have the opportunity to vote the ban into law at the end of this month. We want to present the supervisors with an independent poll of Sonoma County voters that hopefully will convince the supes to vote the ban into law instead of our having to go the long haul to the November election.

We have raised $8700 this past week and need only $1300 more in the next 48 hours to reach our $10,000 goal which will pay for the survey. Please donate today at our website below so we can fund this poll and move toward protecting our organic farms and gardens. Thank you.

I'm not for supporting most current GMO uses. However, this is a overly fearful & poorly written law. This law is too restrictive.

This is a technology. It's not all evil. There needs to be a path to approval for GMOs that are not simply for selling more roundup. There are medical uses and many other advances to come. GMO technologies are in their infancy.

This law provides no path to implimentation for any GMO under testing.
Should we wish to allow even 1 type of GMO, the law needs to be repealed or re-written. That I strongly disagree with.

These are exemptions in our ordinance. They make it quite clear that these things would be allowed. An initiative in CA can have one issue. Ours is to prohibit the cultivation, propagation, raising and growing of GMOs in our county to protect our farms from contamination by GMO seeds and pollen. It would also protect our families, water, wildlife, soil, pollinators from increased herbicide spraying that is inherent in the cultivation of most genetically engineered crops and grasses.

Nothing in this Ordinance shall make it unlawful for:
    1) any person or other legal entity in the County to purchase, sell, or distribute genetically
    engineered human food or animal feed;
    2) any licensed health care practitioner to provide any diagnosis, care or treatment to any human
    patient or animal; or
    3) any research institutions, laboratories or manufacturing facilities in the County to conduct
research involving genetically engineered organisms whose reproduction in the environment
can be physically contained. Such research activities must be conducted under secure,
enclosed indoor laboratory conditions, with utmost precautions to prevent release of
genetically engineered organisms into the outside environment.

It allows for testing... while banning all types of growth for use. What I said still stands. There is no path to approval for any GMO, and the law would have to be rewritten for any use.

Gee - that's the exact same argument used against the last initiative.
