Nonconformity and Freethinking Now Considered Mental Illnesses

This has gone way too far in my opinion ... I'm wondering if this trend has anything to do with big Pharma ...

Re: Nonconformity and Freethinking Now Considered Mental Illnesses

" According to the newest addition of the DSM-IV (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders), it certainly is. The manual identifies a new mental illness called “oppositional defiant disorder” or ODD. Defined as an “ongoing pattern of disobedient, hostile and defiant behavior,” symptoms include questioning authority, negativity, defiance, argumentativeness, and being easily annoyed."

Do you think I could get SSI for this?

There really is a painful condition that involves a sort of compulsive defiance for the sake of defiance--normal and necessary in completing the developmental task of adolescent differentiation, kind of a drag if it goes on much past one's twentieth birthday. The big problem I see with the listing in the manual is that it doesn't include language on the order of "...questioning authority without being able to articulate why in most cases..." There's just so much being done wrong that without that qualifier any fairly intelligent adult human could be lumped together with the folks who, e.g., become Satanists because they feel that will be one in the eye to their Baptist parents or who are irritable due to hypervigilance.

The article that I posted suggests that psychiatry is being used as a tool for political control ... yes, there are real maladies out there but this is a powerful industry which must be watched carefully ... fortunately, there are those who are doing this ...
