I would love to know where the best place is to order wood is?

Can't tell you where the best place is but on 116 from The Graton road stop light there are three different places close together.
On the right at the end of the building where the market is there is someone who sells compressed logs.
Down the road a couple hundred yards just past harmony farm supply on the left next to a small gallery is a firewood supplier, and then past the next light just before the new fire station on the left is a wide lot that has firewood.
Them being so close together you might be able to wrangle the prices.

I've gotten wood from a couple of suppliers and have found Sonoma Firewood Co. to be the best. Not the cheapest, but the cord I got from them was real oak, even lengths and very little branch wood. 526-9386

I took out a couple of trees this year, so I don't need to order any. You'll probably get slightly better pricing now than in late fall. Spring is the cheapest time of year to buy firewood.

Some things you need to know about purchasing wood and the type and quality. Be sure you get full measure, not just a pile. As to quality, dry Madrone is very desirable because it burns completely and very warm and long burning, without leaving much ash. Find out how long the wood has been drying- should be several seasons so that the energy from burning the wood goes to heating and not drying the unburned wood. Oak is also desirable because it is a hardwood and burns longer. Some softwood is desirable to ignite the main fire.

A 'cord' is stacked 4ft X 4ft X 8 ft. And stacked tight enough so that a smart cat can't get through. These factors may increase the cost but are worth it. There are a lot of oaks falling from sudden oak death so look at the wood you are buying for punky wood (rotten). I know this is not where to buy, it's how to buy.

Not sure where you are but we've used a guy in Novato who always has very good wood. His name is Drago and his # is 415-892-3049. He charges $25-30 to delivery to Santa Rosa. Also, right now he has both cured oak and manzanita for $375 cord.

I was just on Craig's List and saw someone offering a bunch for free (on the "free" section under items for sale I believe). Also there may be some for sale there too (just limit your search to Sonoma Co regions / or neighborhoods you are willing to drive to).

I have quite a lot of wood that needs to be split and I have no splitter. I'd love to work out a trade--half and half, one-third, two-thirds. I do need firewood for the winter but I also don't want this to go to waste so I'm pretty flexible.
