Tick stuck inside skin: What to do? Health concerns?

I had to help someone by pulling out a tick from their skin with a pair of tweezers. It was too small for me to pull out with my fingers. But the front end of the tick stayed stuck inside the skin. I was able to tear off most of the tick's body.

Are there any health concerns regarding the remains of the tick's head and perhaps other body parts still under the skin?

    What can be done?

    Thank you!

    You defintely want it out.

You can dig it out wiht a sterilized needle, as you would for a splinter.

And keep the tick if it's not too late, put it on a cotton ball in a jar and take it to (I think) county health. It used to be, may still be, $20 and they will tell you if it is a lyme tick. You want to know because lyme is very serious and the sooner it's treated the easier it is to get rid of.

Not every one gets the bullseye infection pattern or even gets sick right away if it is a lyme tick. It can make you very sick and it can be hard to diagnose later. Find out now.

Next time you remove a tick place a hot needle on its rear end and it will back out on its it own.

At this point, because of the prevalence of the Lyme infection in our community, most doctors are suggesting a prophylactic course of antibiotics in situations like this. The patient does not always get a bulls-eye rash and testing can be inconclusive. It would be very helpful if the tick can be examined.

There is a local Lyme group who will help with this. Sorry, but I don't have contact information. If antibiotics are used it's just very important to supplement with probiotics. I hope that this helps.
