Occupy Sebastopol and criminal behavior

Hmmm. There is at least one Occupy Sebastopol camper that was recently arrested after being caught on video tape breaking into a change machine and stealing its contents from a laundromat owned and operated by a local small merchant. This had been going on for awhile and the money stolen was small potatoes compared to the expense of replacing the damaged machines. So the merchant installed cameras and captured the Occupy offender in the act. This sort of behavior makes it difficult to protest the local press' lack of support for a group apparently unwilling to police its own.

We need to write some letters to the Editor of the PD, and Sonoma West Times on our progress; to counter the anti-Occupy ones they've been printing.

Fallacy of division – assuming that something true of a thing must also be true of all or some of its parts.

1) Catholic priests molest children, but that didn't stop people from going to church or contributing their money.
2) The scale of the problem is very small (and relatively unknown) and the person was caught. Let the people/authorities affected decide what to do about it.
3) Further, Chase and CVS themselves are guilty of many large crimes and they paid fines. It was dismissed as a cost of doing business.
4) Neither the offender you allude to or CVS/CHASE are welcome to continue such behavior.
5) Occupy Sebastopol is a group diverse unrelated people that live here. They are welcome to have their opinions and contribute about this specific topic, just as much as anyone else here.... without making it personal or feeling attacked.

Any further comment would only serve this poster to divert from the real topic at hand;

The Catholic Church and its adherants as an analogy for the group camped on the plaza is a pretty good stretch.Go out and speak with some of the local merchants about their experiences with and feelings towards the Occupiers before presuming to promote their (merchants) interests. Given the small size of the (Occupy) group here the inclusion of any criminal element is significant. The group was made aware of his behavior yet he continued to live with and participate in their activities well after the fact.

Though my statement in no manner justified the nefarious conduct of Chase/CVS you seem to use any slap on the wrist they have received as a justification for the aforementioned Occupier's criminal behavior against the local business community you claim to support. Likewise, it doesn't get anymore "personal" or "feeling attacked" then when your personal property is destroyed or livelihood stolen.

I agree with you about all sharing our opinions but your condescending comment that "if you don't want to contribute, that is ok" would seem to belie your stated goal of welcoming discussion. In fact, really that was the point of the thread. I can't speak for the conduct of others... but I do chose my friends and when I don't like their conduct, I tell them so. If I still am displeased, then I remove myself from the situation or ask them to leave.

I don't like anyone that destroys personal property. We all work hard for what we have and there does need to be some respect for that, in order to be a civil society.

All I'm saying is please don't generalize people... it isn't kind. If you are mad at the offender I can certainly understand that.
