After several years of hard work and support from hundreds of community members, Waterfall Park is finally ours!
Bohemia Ranch, where the beautiful waterfall is located in the west county, will finally become a preserve managed by LandPaths.
Late last year Sonoma Land Trust tried to buy the property but failed to raise the funds from the Open Space District and other public sources and the deal fell apart. The property owner then hired David Katz, a longtime Sonoma County conservationist, to put together another type of deal. Katz showed the place to staff from the Moore Foundation, who then accepted a grant application to help fund a conservation easement over the property that will be granted to the Sonoma Land Trust. At the same time, he convinced LandPaths to step in and they persuaded the owner to donate the property along with a generous endowment to help the preserve get started. The last part of the puzzle was to find a private conservation family to buy a separate part of the property and also allow it to be used for public access by LandPaths. It finally all came together. LandPaths will own and manage the Preserve and we’ll all get to enjoy it forever! If you are interested in getting out on the land or being involved in stewardship, or in making a donation go to the LandPaths website for more info.
