Looking for someone to translate a letter in German

We received a card/letter from a relative in Germany and alas! it is in German! Anyone willing to translate it over a cup of coffee or tea and sweet...my treat. Thanks. Janet 824-8251

If you have, or have access to MS Office - simply type it in in German and use the translation feature - hopefully it's not too long.

Re: Looking for someone to translate a letter in German

There are translators on the web that can help you. Since it's being done by a computer program, it might not give you the exact meanings or exact translations, but it should give you a good enough idea!

Note: it's better to type in a whole phrase or sentence, than just one word at a time.

This one is my favorite, I used this one for German class. It's also cool because if you type in some text, it will try to guess what language you are typing in, so you don't have to select the source language from the list:

    SDL Free Translation
    https://www.freetranslation.com/

This one I find not so accurate, but it can sometimes translate something more accurately or that the other web site cannot do:

    Yahoo! Babel Fish Translator
    https://babelfish.yahoo.com/translate_txt

    Good luck

Re: Looking for someone to translate a letter in German

My German was never top-notch and is a bit rusty at this point, but if you still need help I could take a whack at it. Though it would probably take me longer than a cup of coffee would last, depending on the length. Or scan it and email it to me.

The online tools are good, but if the writer used any idioms or slang, you'll have no idea what the meaning is.

I'll point this thread out to my wife, who was born and brought up in Dortmund, Germany, and German is her native language. Hopefully she'll see fit to contact you if you still need this letter translated.
