    Wait, I take that back, I have found many University professors to be living in a seperate reality, where things are the way that they and their fellow instructors say they are, regardless of evidence to the contrary, simply because they read it somewhere, they have a PhD, and they said so. It is a sad truth that many professors never leave the college campus, and temper their so-called "learning" with a dose of reality. They continue to parrot delusions and untruths that everybody in the real world knows to be fantasy.

    Most Americans – by simply reading the text – understand the nature of the 10th Amendment. It ensures that any powers not granted to the federal government through the Constitution are reserved to the states and the people.
    However, through various expansions of federal authority, the government in Washington, D.C., has impeded on the powers reserved to the states and the people.
    This significant transfer of powers from the individual states to the national government came not through revolution, but through ongoing and unchecked encroachments. Now, this federal intrusion on state sovereignty has reached a breaking point.
    Below are some examples where national government has or could infringe on state sovereignty:

    * By collecting taxes from state residents and then using that money to compel sovereign state governments – through the use of “strings” attached to federal funding – to implement programs and provide services in accordance with the desires of federal authorities.

    * By pushing states toward financial distress by providing financial incentives to implement programs and services without supplying adequate federal funding.

    * By enacting national laws that go far beyond the federal powers enumerated in the U.S. Constitution.

    * By potentially providing federal funds to fill state budget deficits, which were created – in part – through over-spending prompted by federal financial incentives to create new programs.

    Obviously the so-called stimulus was going to get passed, because Obama owed too many favors for getting his office. but you might want to know what the country's's leading economics professors thought about it. This is a copy of the full page ad they took in the NYT and the WP:



    There is no disagreement that we need action by our government, a recovery plan that will help to jumpstart the economy.
    Notwithstanding reports that all conomists are now Keynesians and that we all upport a big increase in the burden of
    government, we the undersigned do not believe that more government spending is a way to improve economic performance.

    More government spending by Hoover and Roosevelt did not pull the United States economy out of the Great Depression in the 1930s. More government spending did not solve Japan’s “lost decade” in the 1990s. As such, it is a triumph of hope over experience to believe that more government spending will help the U.S. today. To improve the economy, policymakers should
    focus on reforms that remove impediments to work, saving, investment and production. Lower tax rates and a reduction in the burden of government are the best ways of using fiscal policy to boost growth.

    Our goal is to find and support at least one candidate to run in all 435 congressional districts in 2010 who will solemnly swear to uphold this simple non-partisan platform that covers 4 areas:


    The Economy: Honesty and transparency must be returned to our financial system. There should be a thorough investigation and evaluation of the Federal Reserve System. The arbitrary power to create money with no oversight must be ended. There should be no increase in the national debt. The Federal Government needs to stay out of the affairs of private business. There should be no taxpayer bailouts of corporations and no corporate subsidies.


    Individual Rights: Individual rights and sovereignty are supreme and inherent. The proper role of government is to protect our unalienable rights to life, liberty, and property. The federal government must serve the people by protecting these rights within the borders of the states that make up the union. We must repeal the Patriot Act, the Military Commissions Act, and the FISA legislation. We must reject the notion and practice of torture, elimination of habeas corpus, secret tribunals, and secret prisons. We must deny immunity for corporations that spy willingly on the American people for the benefit of the government. We must return the checks and balances as intended by the founders. The illegal use of signing statements and illegal use of executive orders must be ended. The government must not regulate the content of the media.


    Foreign Policy: We must stand for a strong national defense. The military is the main responsibility of the Federal Government. Our military should be used to protect only our citizens and defend our borders. We need to get our troops out of foreign countries and politics. Our foreign policy should not impose our will or way of life on other nations. We must not act as world police. We must reject international treaties that could destroy our national sovereignty.


    Congressional Promise: No member of congress should ever vote for any bill they have not read!

    This sounds fine, except that it's aburd in terms of how things actually work. I quite agree that Congressmen should know what they're voting for. But that's why Congress has committees and that's why Congressmen have large staffs. If a Senator personally had to read every word of a 500 pp bill today, a 1,000 pp bill tomorrow, he'd be a mind-blown idiot. These things are often delegated, and if he doesn't actually know what's in the bill, he's got a lousy staff and they've got a lousy boss.

    But this kind of "common-sense" quip is just another tomato to throw.

    The candidate purports to be "independent" and calls his website this? "Retaken" by whom? Is my memory so dim that I'm mistaken that the Republicans had control of the US Congress from 1994 to 2006, ran up vast deficits, and generally made a balls of it?
