These lines came to me as I woke from an exhausted nap during the 10 days or so of fighting the Creighton Ridge fire here in 1978. I hear them as a country-western song.
It's been 29 years (!) and I've never gotten another line.
Anyone? Here's what I got:
Wednesday was hot, and so we thought we'd go to Goat Rock;
Me and Laurie and the kids were in the van;
We looked back along the ridge and it was burnin',
Grabbed our backpumps and our boots and then we ran
Up Creighton Ridge to fight the fire acomin' toward us;
Comin' faster, spreadin' farther than we could;
The day we thought we'd never see was all around us.....
