recommendation for TV signal booster/amplifer?

The setup routine for our new TV let us scan for over-the-air stations. We hooked up the cable to our rooftop antenna and were surprised to find that we were getting some OAT channels from the antenna, though the quality was poor.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a signal booster/amplifier to put between the antenna cable and the TV that will allow better reception? The online offerings for signal boosters are full of hype and exaggerated claims, with prices all over the map.

Hi

The best way to bring over the air stations, is to use an antenna that provides more gain. A booster can only amplify the signal received from the antenna, it will not make the antenna more sensitive. Big tv antenna with a rotator will give you the best performance for ota's. A few online places offer them.

What type feedline (cable) is going to the antenna and how long is it? Typical choices would be RG-59, RG-6, RG-11. What antenna is it?

Which channels were you able to receive? Have you looked where they broadcast from and verified that the antenna is pointed in the correct direction? Do you have a reasonably clear view in that direction?

You could be losing a lot of signal and want to correct any problems. Then if a preamp is necessary, you want a mast mount type. You mount it at the antenna and the power adapter at the TV receiver end sends power to it up the feedline.
