Re: Sonoma County Covid-19 The Numbers

The findings showing that two common-cold betacoronaviruses, specifically OC43 and HKU1, confer lasting immunity to the COVID-19 virus are potentially revolutionary. Consider that the original smallpox vaccine consisted of pus from the lesions on a person infected by cowpox, a much milder form of the disease. Could it really be this simple? Time will tell.

Why are some immune to Covid-19. It might not be because you have a powerful immune system but rather you were lucky enough to be sick with a certain cold virus in the last decade and a half. https://www.sciencetimes.com/article...p-17-years.htm

Re: Sonoma County Covid-19 The Numbers

    Thanks for asking Lilith!

It is the people who don't have symptoms, who are not distancing or wearing masks when appropriate,
    are spreading the virus.

People who have the virus, but show no symptoms, have as much virus in their throat and nasal passages,
as the people who are sick with symptoms.

It's not just about the tests,
    it's whether we have enough:

doctors and nurses (so they don't get burned out),

equipment and Intensive Care Beds available,

whether they have enough PPE (Personal Protective Equipment)
such as masks, gloves, gowns, for docs and nurses and others who work in the same facilities
    (including janitors, etc.).

Last week, here in Santa Rosa, outside of Memorial Hospital, nurses were demonstrating because they needed more PPE.

If there is not enough PPE ,
then the docs, nurses, and other workers
    can get the virus,
and then spread it from patient to patient, as well as other workers, docs, and nurses.

I knew Sonoma Co. was opening up too soon...

Approximately 1/2 of the people I see when I go out (frequently much more than 1/2), are not wearing a mask, and do not seem to be carrying one in case it is needed.

When I grocery shop, half of the people (including workers) don't care or are forgetting about distancing.

I was sick from the end of Nov. thru the middle of February...

still exhausted, ie., have not recovered completely.

I'm frustrated and want the whole thing to be over too,
but the only way to stop it, is to stop spreading it.

I don't want to argue or debate, I have my own experience and the expereiences of others I know.

    Kindly,
    Dusty

Lilith, there was an article in the PD a couple of days ago. The rise in cases is primarily attributed to the premature opening of (indoor) places where people tend to gather: bars, restaurants, bowling alleys, etc.

I blame the virus. Its quite contagious. Sure culture and it's relation to government recommendations can slow the spread. But it doesn't stop it. Look at Japan for example, blowing up again there. In California there have been times when case numbers held steady, and even times when daily deaths were in decline, but overall community spread continues. Eventually we'll either all be exposed and/or there will be an effective vaccine. Numbers will decline before then, like in LA right now.

    Here's some more info:

GATHERINGS CONTRIBUTING TO COVID-19 TRANSMISSION IN SONOMA COUNTY

According to the County of Sonoma, we have seen a rapid increase of COVID-19 cases in our county over the past week. In the last 72 hours alone, we have seen 167 new positive cases.

Cases are associated with different sectors and activities, including households, grocery stores, travel, close contacts, and community transmission.

14% of 611 cases reported between June 21 and July 11 were associated with
gatherings, including 4th of July BBQs with friends and family, birthday parties, bridal showers, funerals, etc.

The County asks, for the safety of our community, please avoid gatherings with those outside of your immediate household. Remember to follow mitigation measures anytime you leave your home:

    • Stay at least 6 ft away from anyone not living in your household
    • Clean/wipe any commonly used surfaces
    • Wear a face covering in any public place
    • Bring hand sanitizer with you, wash your hands for at least 20 seconds
    • If you feel sick, stay home and call your doctor
    • Get tested (CLICK HERE for testing information)

STATE RESTRICTIONS ON LOCAL BUSINESSES STAND

A message from the County of Sonoma:

Recently, the State Department of Public Health ordered new restrictions on bars, restaurants, and other indoor business operations in Sonoma County as part of statewide actions to slow the increased spread of the coronavirus.

The State Health Order prohibits indoor activities that bring residents into prolonged contact with people who are not members of their own household. These gatherings have been identified as helping spread the coronavirus.

The state directed these industries to stop indoor services*:

    • Bars, clubs, breweries, brewpubs and distilleries
    • Card rooms
    • Family entertainment centers (for example: bowling alleys and arcades)
    • Gyms and fitness centers (including yoga and dance studios)
    • Hair salons and barbershops
    • Shopping malls
    • Movie theaters
    • Offices for non-essential (non-critical infrastructure) sectors
    • Protests
    • Personal care services, (for example: nail salons, body waxing and tattoo
    parlors)

    • Restaurants
    • Wineries/tasting rooms
    • Worship services and cultural ceremonies (for example: weddings and
    funerals)

    • Zoos and museums

CLICK HERE for a list of what is currently open in Sonoma County.

*These restrictions will remain in place in Sonoma County until the state takes further action. These businesses must stop indoor services. These businesses may operate outdoors to the extent allowed for by law.

    Aug 1

111 Cases in Sonoma County. The county has adopted a new way to report location of cases. What was previously referred to as West County is now broken down in two categories, Sebastopol West and Russian River Area. They also have a location called other. I have no idea what that means. It could be people that became ill while here on a visit or inmates from San Quentin. Our previous West County case numbers do not equate to the new way they are reporting. There is also a large number of under investigation, perhaps those numbers were previously allocated proportionally to each region. https://experience.arcgis.com/experi...?views=view_35

Sebastopol West includes zip codes 94922, 94923, 95444, 95465, 95472 to date 43 total cases

    Russian River Area includes zip codes 95419, 95421, 95430, 95436, 95446, 95450, 95462, 95471 to date 26 cases

I will report Sebastopol West and Russian River Area changes separately from this day forward but am unable to tell todays changes.

I live in west Santa Rosa but do all my shopping in Sebastopol. I couldn't get a test but had the symptoms beginning of March which lasted seven weeks. One odd symptom, that I'm still dealing with, is that I can rarely sleep for more than two hours at a time. I've been sleeping about 25 hours a week for the past five months. This is the opposite of how I used to sleep - and for decades. My issue had always been that I needed "too much" sleep - at least ten hours or more per night. Strange and exhausting flip. Anyone else have their sleep effected?

Here is an interesting interactive chart that give the odds of a gathering in which one or more will be Covid positive. You can set the group size. Figures in every US County. In Sonoma County if you have a group of 50 people there will be a 56% change one or more will be Covid Positive. https://covid19risk.biosci.gatech.edu
Obviously very broad figures that do not account for age, ethnicity, employment etc.

I'm so sorry to hear you are still experiencing symptoms. It looks like a lot of people will have long lasting issues. As for sleep, the brain is definitely affected, although it looks like it more from the lack of oxygen than the virus itself in the brain (but the science is changing all the time). So having sleep problems makes sense if that area of your brain has been affected.

A close friend's niece, in her 40's, died of it in Florida. Three friends, all in their 70's, got it in March and had a very rough time of it; all three now suffer from chronic fatigue. A couple I've known for many years from Pagan circles just got it, not hospitalized so far. A neighbor got it in a VA convalescent hospital, he's home now. YMMV

Two dear local friends got it, one very severely and they have lingering side effects; their descriptions of the experience is way beyond any flu I've ever had; there's a kind of malevolent presence they both described. A friend in NY feels he will never be the same, several organs impacted seriously. Luckily I know no one who has died, but I have a few friends on the East coast who do. Kindness on this thread is suggested. This virus is impacting many people's lives.
