Good Friday: Jesus made the sacrifice so you don't have to

Many Christian parents inflict circumcision on their young sons with rationalizations that "it is in the Bible" and "Jesus was circumcised." Nothing could be further from the Christian doctrine, which specifically rejects circumcision or any other mutilation.

Christian lore observes Good Friday as the day when Jesus of Nazareth was executed by the Romans by crucifixion, making the ultimate sacrifice and eventually separating Christianity from Judaism. Jewish circumcision is a form of ritual blood sacrifice; since Jesus sacrificed his life for his followers, no further sacrifice is needed.

The Christian intactivist group Little Image asserts circumcision is unhealthy, unhygienic, unnatural, unkind, and unchristian. Regarding the latter, they state:

"There's nothing Christian about circumcision. Christians throughout the world and history have rejected circumcision. In fact, the modern procedure isn't even the original Jewish one."

In his 2005 book Marked in Your Flesh: Circumcision from Ancient Judea to Modern America, Jewish-American doctor, anthropologist and intactivist Leonard B. Glick describes the history of religious and medical male circumcision. In 2006 he gave an extensive interview on the subject which is available on Youtube.

In the interview, he discusses the Old Testament practice, how it morphed from a ritual fealty oath of a drop of blood to the complete removal of the foreskin around 130 AD, and how this Bronze Age genital mutilation procedure was adopted by western medicine in the late 1800s.
