What are the best options for internet service off watertrough rd?

I recently moved to watertrough rd area and am having a heck of a time with service. I rent a studio on property and am trying to get wifi off of main house comcast as its included in my rent, it is constantly going out and is very frustrating when watching a movie and it cuts out every few seconds. As a back up I've been trying hot spot through metro pcs, (getting expensive as there is no unlimited data available) what are people doing to watch movies (I'm not a big fan of regular tv but love watching Netflix and Hulu) ?

Two options are trying a wifi-extender (There are lots of them, google wifi makes them and they are easy to use). But google wifi is not such a long distance one. Google makes what they call a "mesh" network so all the extenders have the same SSID (network name) and you can seamlessly move from one to the other. You might need several. I run one from the main house to my cottage about 30 feet away. I had to have two google wifi mesh extenders. One I put in the main house, next to a window facing the cottage. the other one is in the window of the cottage. It has good enough coverage, but if you need more coverage in the second house you can add another google wifi in the second house. And, if the best window in the main house for putting the google wifi is too far from the main house wifi for good signal, you can put another google wifi in the main house to connect from the main wifi to the window wifi.

How far from the studio to the main house?

Second option is to get your own internet through a local provider like CDS (www.cds1.net) It's pretty reliable but a bit expensive. (I pay $80 for about 10 MBits/sec; ok for streaming). I happen to know their base station is out on English hill near you. I'm 10 miles away from you and it works OK for me.

I'm about 35 ft away from main house.
I bought a wifi extender but can't seem to get it to connect to network. Maybe I should hire someone to come set it up, you know of anyone?

Sounds like you need a wifi extender. This has an antenna to pick up the main house signal and another to boost it to you. Works best if it is line-of-sight half way from the main house to you. Any trees or other obstructions will block the signal. You pick it up on a channel with ".GEXT" appended to the main house name.

Debbie, here is another option, if a knowledgeable tech-savvy person can't get the wi-fi range extender to work:

Depending on where the router in the house is located, if you're only 35 feet away, running an ethernet cable (also called a cat 5 or cat 6 cable) directly from the router in the house to your computer could be an easy solution . . . IF you can run the cable without a lot of hassle. Here's a 50 foot one.

Has been pretty reliable and rarely any problem watching Netflix, Youtube etc.
Also based on English Hill, though they can also 'Bounce' a connection off of another of their subscribers if you don't have line-of-sight to English Hill(Top of Burnside Rd).
They have been responsive the few times we've had issues.
Their home office is Near Andy's market.
We use the Basic Plan 2Mbs unlimited Data, no throttling, $59.95(no extra fees, simple)

I have used Consumer Cellular for years and am very satisfied with their service. It costs me about $18 a month for about 20 messages. They win awards for their good service. I live close to Watertrough.

since you are renting, you might consider investing in your own mobile Internet device and service. "going mobile" will allow you to take your Internet data service with you when you move, take a road trip, or go camping. the device you need is a "4g cellular router" -- not a wi-fi booster, although there are some pricey devices that have both functions.

there are several good choices of cellular data providers and plans, including unlimited data plans. the Mobile Internet Resource Center has an up-to-date guide available at https://www.rvmobileinternet.com/gui...le-and-sprint/

Last but not least, you can borrow a verizon hot-spot from the sonoma county library through the new sonomafi program funded by the voter-approved sales tax increase.
