With the outcome of the recent election, if the rhetoric coming fromDonald Trump, his appointees and Congress is to be believed, the people of this county may find themselves facing unjust laws which violate their civil rights. And just as the colonists did, we may need to refuse to accept those laws and we will expect the same fromour local elected representatives.
We don't know exactly what the Trump administration will bring forth, but we should know what we will not accept. Our civil servants must understand that they should refuse to comply with any discriminatory laws, orders or regulations. Legality must not be used as an excuse.Much evil has been “legal.” Elected officials around the country are speaking out. The mayor of New York City has been particularly strong in saying his city will break the law. Governor Jerry Brown has been defiant, as well. We can and should do that here. We can and should say, “It won't happen here.”
