This report is a hefty read yet incredibly informative to the breadth Amazon has taken in various areas of commerce.
It also serves as a reminder to feel grateful for being able to shop local and live sustainably if one chooses and continue in sharing that importance with others ~
Even Birkenstock was hit with the truth of Amazon's dark side and is taking its own action.
Quote from report:
[page 21-22] "In July Birkenstock announced that itwould no longer sell its popular shoesto Amazon, and that, as of January 1,2017, it would not authorize third-partysellers to sell them on the site either."
“Amazon direct was one of our largest accounts,”David Kahan, CEO of Birkenstock USA, wrote ina letter to the company’s retail partners. Givingup the revenue, Kahan explains, was necessaryto protect the 240-year-old company’s reputationwith customers and ensure “a fair and competitive environment” for its retail partners.
At issue wasAmazon’s refusal to stem a “constant stream ofunidentifiable unauthorized sellers” who disregardBirkenstock’s policies, including “postings by sellersproven to have counterfeit Birkenstock products.”
