San Francisco Chronicle, letter to the editor
November 10, 2016
To all my friends who make comments about leaving the U.S. or being disgusted and scared, don’t be. The decision has been made and we must honor the democratic process and decision of the American people. And now more than ever, we must stand up and have our voice heard. We do not accept words/acts of hate, discrimination, bigotry and violence. We need to get more involved with our Congress to push this country forth. Be patient and show tolerance. Have productive and constructive dialog. And, above all, don’t retaliate. Because if you do, you might as well burn the Constitution. Remember that we have the balance of powers where the executive branch can be checked by the legislative branch. It is time to exercise our rights and not go quietly into the night. It’s time to act and not sit on the side. For every American — Republican, Democrat or undecided — it is time to get up and do our job. Because America is not defined by our president, but by our people.
