Neil deGrasse Tyson reveals first guests, premiere date for 'StarTalk' show

Astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson discusses his upcoming
National Geographic Channel show at the Television Critics Assn.]
press tour in Pasadena on Jan. 7.

Everybody's favorite astrophysicist, Neil deGrasse Tyson, is entering the late-night fray in April with a TV version of his hit podcast, "StarTalk." And now we know he'll be joined by an eclectic array of guests on his first few shows.

President Jimmy Carter, "Interstellar" director Christopher Nolan, evolutionary biologist Richard Dawkins, astronaut Chris Hadfield, author Arianna Huffington, "Star Trek" star George Takei and "All in the Family" creator Norman Lear are the guest lineup for the first run of episodes running through June 22.

The series, which debuts April 20 on National Geographic Channel, will feature Tyson discussing hot scientific topics of the day through one-on-one interviews and a panel discussion featuring other scientists and comedians. The show will be taped in front of a live audience at the American Museum of Natural History’s Rose Center for Earth and Space in New York City, where Tyson serves as the Frederick P. Rose director of the Hayden Planetarium.

In addition, Bill Nye "the Science Guy" will appear each week in a pretaped segment discussing the theme of the week.
The first episode will be themed around "Star Trek" and the way it has served as inspiration for the future.

"StarTalk" will air Monday nights and be rerun Friday at an earlier hour.

Between Tyson's show and "Last Week Tonight," who could have predicted that late-night TV would become a serious outlet for quality news and info?
