Where can dogs be leash free?

I too am looking for great places I can take my dog leash free. YIKES! I just moved here from Colorado and had no idea things were quite this restrictive. I've found a few swimming holes, but aside from Dillion Beach, this has been a challenge.

Petaluma has at least 15 off leash dog parks and dog run areas.

None of them are fully fenced so they all have that open feeling.
All the dogs there are 100% under voice control 100% of the time.
If you enjoy dogs off leash, I'm sure you will find Petaluma a very welcoming community.
The Petaluma City Council, Parks Dept, Police Dept and animal Control Dept are strongly in favor of dogs off leash in Petaluma. San Francisco is the only other City in the bay area with as many off leash dog areas and Petaluma has modeled its policy on San Francisco's.

Sebastopol is very strict and will issue $85 tickets for dogs off-leash. The Sebastopol schools have a strict policy prohibiting dogs from running on their fields. There is one off leash dog park in Ragel that has great people as well as pets enjoying it.

Santa Rosa has some off leash areas that are set aside during certain times of day you could look into.

Maybe someone from Cotati or Rohnert Park could chime in on their neighborhoods.

Leashes are required in all the county parks, state parks and other natural areas such as those managed by Land Paths. This is important to respect for the quail and other wildlife in those areas. Even if your dog is on a leash, you may want to be aware that Sudden Oak Death can be spread by dogs feet.
