    New courthouse

I don't read the papers so maybe this is common knowledge but I haven't seen it mentioned here. Santa Rosa is planning/pushing to build a new courthouse. Not one damn long term mental health facility (there's that new one on Fulton, I think, but that is very short term and the new Sutter has a wing but it is private pay only). I am outraged by this. The lawyers don't feel "safe" enough. Grrrrr. Most of them have never even seen the jail that they want to throw all the sick people into but they want a whole new fancy building for themselves. I can't believe it.

I haven't heard it mentioned here so don't know if everyone knows and is letting it pass. I found out because it seems I'm always at the courthouse, and being me, I eavesdrop a lot or insert myself into conversations. You can tell you're on to something when the lawyers snap their mouths shut like Farfel in the old Nestle's commercials.

The funding had been approved. Completion is expected by March 2019.

    Re: New courthouse

my understanding is that security concerns are the biggest issue with the existing courthouse. the old jail got demolished a few years ago. it was also deemed out of date and inferior construction, but turned out to be very solid and much more difficult to destroy than predicted. the site of the old jail is where the new courthouse is to be built, probably with similar security measures as the new jail. a control center with camera feeds and buttons to open double sets of steel doors, one at a time...

I believe the funding is going through and the courthouse will get built. It is a long process as the Governor has had to approve the funding, etc. From my understanding, a new building is required because the old courthouse is falling apart. I'm not sure what all the issues are but I've heard there are water issues, sewage issues, earthquake safety issues and just a plain old need for more space. A lot of the offices of the staff are in the old jail...not a particularly nice place to work!

I was at the court house yesterday, it needs painting but not replacing. We the people of Sonoma County, I believe need safer roads, libraries, mental health facilities, and places for our growing homeless Vets, and families. Do we really need to protect our lawyers, if so create jobs for trained safety personal. Our government knows how to waste money, the taxpayers money.

They're just taking the next step in separating the justice system from the common folk. The 1%, who routinely buy off the justice system as it is for sale if you can afford it, they want more luxury and better surroundings as they routinely mete out punishment to those who can't afford to buy or game the system.
