    Bald Eagle Over Laguna

Stopped at the stop sign at High School Rd. and Occidental Rd. around 1:30 today and a beautiful, mature bald eagle soared overhead and circled around the Laguna.

    Re: Bald Eagle Over Laguna

There has been a nesting pair of bald eagles at the Laguna south of Occidental Road for a few years. I haven't heard if they have produced babies, but I have seen the adults.

Last summer I say a juvenile bald eagle perched on top of one of the oaks along the Laguna channel; I assume it was the offspring of the adult pair we often see there.

    Re: Bald Eagle Over Laguna

As *long* ago as 2009, a bald eagle was sighted in the Laguna--pointed out by a docent of the Audubon's Madrone Chapter, when I attended a walk out to the egret and heron "condo" nests north of Occidental Rd., off the west end of the Willowside access trail. Will never forget that sights and sounds of high-rise nesting activity in the tall trees along that part of the riparian corridor. The bald eagle was sitting in a dead tree far across the Laguna from us, but plain as day.

To possibly get a glimpse of the bald eagles and wonderful sights of nesting egrets, cormorants, herons, & even hawks, you can sign up now for the Laguna Foundation walk out around delta pond. You get an excellent view of all these birds nesting in the large oaks that are between the Laguna and the delta pond levee. They have sighting scopes set up to see nests. Watching a baby great blue heron being fed is my best bird watching experience! The walk is Saturday morning, May 3.

To sign up go to The Laguna Foundation's website & follow the prompts. It costs $15 & is a fundraiser for their education programs.
