Starting last Spring, many of you followed the formation and initial actions of the WCA ( Watertrough Children's Alliance). Our group of parents, neighbors and citizens have extensive concerns regarding the Orchard to Vineyard Conversion currently occurring on a 48 acre parcel on Watertrough that directly borders 3 schools and is across the narrow road from two others- ranging from preschool and kindergarten through high school. After exhausting every option available through Regional and State agencies to address issues including pesticide drift onto the playgrounds, we have filed a lawsuit against the County. The lawsuit mandates that the County follow California State law by applying CEQA (California Environmental Quality Act) and conducting an Environmental Impact Report so that effects on the 700 children immediately adjacent to this project will be considered.
In June, the Paul Hobbs Winery Vineyard project was halted due to a "Stop Work" order issued by the County and other agencies after it was discovered that the required erosion controls were not employed. Further, the protected riparian zone surrounding the creek that runs through the property had been clear-cut in violation of the law. The Vineyard Conversion has commenced again, and as our court date draws nearer we are in immediate need of funds for our suit. If you are concerned about vineyard development in Sonoma County and the lack real oversight or protections for the environment, our water, health, and community character - this is your opportunity to become part of the most serious challenge offered thus far to the manner in which these developments are being approved with little or no consideration for the impacts to our community.
PLEASE DONATE NOW TO OUR LAWSUIT.-We are in urgent need of funds to continue. See the attached overview for more information.
