On behalf of many of us, sending THANKS, to Sebastopol's City Council for voting, earlier this evening, to extend the moratorium on Drive Through windows in our downtown area another year!
CVS' had thought that it's Christmas past lawsuit would intimidate out elected representatives to allow them to override our city's general plan for a pedestrian friendly, drive through windown-less downtown.
Thankfully, our City Council practiced responsive government and refused to cave in!
CVS, the bullies on the block, the "drug dealers who want the best corner in town" and will do whatever it takes to get it, are suing on the ludicrous grounds that THEY, WITH THEIR BILLIONS IN PROFITS, are BEING DISCRIMINATED AGAINST by our city council.
In essence, they are arguing that they have a RIGHT to do whatever serves their corporate profits, and are seeking judicial intervention to force our city to put their carbon monoxide spiking drive through windows in the center of our downtown, right in the most congested, dangerous crossroads of West Sonoma County.
The reality is that for decades we have had a ban against drive through windows for restaurants in Sebastopol. When that was passed, in the 1990's, and put in the General Plan, DRIVE THRU PHARMACIES DID NOT YET EXIST, at least not in Northern california. Yet today, they are an integral part of the Big Pharma distribution model, and NEITHER CVS NOR WALGREEN will build a new pharmacy without one. That's why, friends, this is so important--and why it is likely to torpedo CVS' project, despite their early success in driving a factually-challenged,seemingly rigged traffic plan through our last city council a few years ago.
So this moratorium is a natural extension of a ban on restaurant drive throughs, and the ordinance banning drive through windows a natural extension of the community planning that we have the RIGHT , through you, our local government , to insist upon. It is entirely consistent with city policy, and our ban or restaurant drive throughs, and a pedestrian friendly downtown area.
CVS really seeks to be missing the memos. We, the People, are not buying the bullshit they are peddling. And neither are those we elect to represent us.![]()
