My daughter went to Argentina with Global Student Embassy which is a local group (founded in Sebastopol!). We also hosted a student. It all went very well!
I imagine some people reading this have also worked with them? Anybody? Any other exchange groups?

I was an exchange student in high school, went to school in Germany for a semester with the Experiment in International Living/World Learning (https://www.experimentinternational.org). I had a fantastic experience, and went on to attend the School for International Training (the school associated with EIL) for my undergraduate degree. That was many years ago, but I still know many people associated with those programs, and it remains an admirable place.
One of the core beliefs of the institution is that experiential education is the most effective way to learn, and that was definitely true for me. Ultimately, I think being an exchange student with any reputable program is one the best things you can do to open up the world for your kid.

I absolutely loved my experience with GSE. I was part of the pilot class and got to see the program come together. The founder, Lucas Oshun is a great guy, excited about his work and has a socially conscious attitude i feel is essential for any exchange program.
The program differs from others in its focus on social justice and taking a critical point of view on the issues discussed. I'm sure the organization has grown and changed since I was involved, but I know only for the better. I highly recommend getting involved with GSE.
