    Vegetarian Cookbook/App/Website Recommendations?

    Hi Everybody,

I'm looking for a good Vegetarian cookbook or website or app. Could be vegan or not. I'm less interested in raw, but your welcome to post them, too.

In particular, I'm looking for relatively easy/fast recipes. So you're welcome to post your favorite recipes, too!

    Thanks for your suggestions!

I'm not a strict vegetarian by any means, but The New Moosewood Cookbook by Mollie Katzen is my steady go-to source for meatless recipes. An absolute classic for vegetarian comfort food!

I love that Moosewood Cookbook! And I think the updated version goes a little easier on the cheese and butter. The old recipes were a little swimmy with butterfat. Good though :>) Check out the Arabian Squash casserole and the Curried Squash and Mushroom Soup for some especially tasty meals.

While going to post this ad, I noticed that the cookbook I was going to recommend, "The New Moosewood Cookbook" had already been posted, but thought I'd just give it a second vote! It's based upon recipes from The Moosewood Restaurant
back East, or at least they used to be there. Thanks for all you do, Barry...

Thanks and you are most welcome, Teresa!

I noticed a newer book from Moosewood: The Moosewood Restaurant Cooking for Health. Sounds a little closer to what I'm looking for (Healthy!). Does anybody have this?

I've also used the AllRecipies iPhone/iPad App. I really like it since it has recipes reviews and ratings (you know how I like personal opinions! ), a personal recipe file for your favorites, a handy shopping list feature, and it's always availabe in your pocket when your at the store! I've found some recipes I like in it (especially the Mexican Bean Salad!) but there's lots of recipes in there I wouldn't go near! Sure would be nice to find an App with a wide selection of vegetarian/vegan recipes. Most of the apps I noticed only had 50 or so recipes.

My favorite is Jill Nussinow's The Veggie Queen. She's local, and the the recipe book features seasonal fresh vegetables. I've tried and enjoyed many of the recipes. Try her black bean and sweet potato chili, made in a pressure cooker. Delicious, substantial, satisfying!

About JillI wear many hats but they're all related to great food that includes vegetables and other plant based cuisine. I'm a vegetable and plant-food cooking expert, in vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free eating. I also specialize in teaching people how to make great "fast food" in the pressure cooker. Don't worry about me turning you into a vegetarian; you have to do that on your own time. I just want to help you get more vegetables and plant foods into your diet, no matter what other foods you choose to eat. I want you to eat so that you feel healthy and energetic.

I love this time of year, as some of you already know. I have eaten my first spring asparagus , green garlic and artichokes (see my You Tube video for how to pressure cook artichokes). This means that peas aren't far behind. Do you get the feeling that I figure out which season it is by looking at the vegetables that are fresh? Yes, it's true. I hope that whatever spring veggies you have right now that you enjoy them wholeheartedly.
. Wishing you Happy Spring and a wonderful day - always.

I've been an ovo-lacto vegetarian (meaning I eat eggs and dairy) for 22 years. My wife has been veggie since our twin girls were born. The girl's are ten now and have never eaten meat (by the way, they are the tallest kids in their fourth grade class!) I have about 15 vegetarian cookbooks, but there is one that we call the "Bible." It is really almost a coffee table book in that it is hard-cover, big and heavy. It is called "Vegetarian: The Greatest Ever Vegetarian Cookbook" by Nicola Graimes.

This book is great. It is 510 pages, all with nice glossy photos. The thing that is cool about this book is that the first 127 pages is an introduction to all things food (without the meat), category by category. It has descriptions of nearly every non-meat food item with its use and nutritional attributes. Want to learn about grains?; go to the grain section. There are literally dozens of categories... everything is in there.

Beyond that, there are then hundreds of pages of recipes. Most recipes have photographs of not only the finished product, but also several of the intermediate steps, so you know what you're going for along the way. Most ethnicities are represented here (French to Thai), including breakfast through desert.

It looks like this hardback is out of print but amazon has it in paperback (https://www.amazon.com/Vegetarian-Th.../dp/0681020725). I have also seen several smaller versions that have many identical recipes and photos. I Googled the author and she has many versions out there.

I'm not sure I'd call the recipes "quick and easy", but they are definitely reproducible and can be a great starting point for variations that you can make with your own tastes in mind.

I'd be happy to let you thumb through the book or borrow it if you'd like.

    Good luck trying veggie!

    Keith
