Did you know this was happening here in our County?

This article is a result of a CBS CHannel 5 news report last night 2/4 on our County Animal Shelter. Below is also a link to video of the newscast. Interesting this is not something the Press Democrat has reported on in our local paper.

Re: Did you know this was happening here in our County?

I have been a volunteer at our county shelter for 9 years. I have fostered kittens, walked dogs, worked with office staff as well as vet staff. I also have spent many days working at all the sales and special events put on by the shelter. My experience at our shelter for all these years has been very positive. The staff at the shelter are very kind, compassionate, knowledgeable and efficient. The women who did this interview on Channel 5 lied to the reporter about the conditions at the shelter. They were asked to leave the shelter because they were beligerent and yelled obsenities at the shelter staff. I get the impression that they feel they have the right to take over the shelter and make the paid staff do what they want done.

This is a county shelter. As such they have to take in every animal regardless of behavior or health issues. The humane society can pick and choose who they take in and can therefore sort of be classified as a "no kill" shelter. They send the animals who need further evaluation for health issues and behavior issues to the county shelter. The county shelter has a fabulous full-time vet and vet tech staff who take care of all the critters special health needs. The kennel techs and vet techs are hghly qualified in behavorial evaluation and retraining needs. Each animal is given the best of care possible at the shelter. There are times an animal needs to be euthanized due to health and/or behavior problems.

These women are not qualified to do these assesments. They want nothing but trouble and should not be allowed to "volunteer" at this shelter. They don't want to volunteer - they want to control the shelter and demand things be done their way! We do not need volunteers like this - they are just trouble makers looking for some way to suck good energy from our shelter - good riddance to them

Re: Did you know this was happening here in our County?

Gee whiz! Usually when I see something like Ruth's comments, (based on non-truths), I send her a good thought and go on about my day. While I am still sending her a good thought, I must pause for a second and give another view. I've been a volunteer at the County Shelter for the better part of a decade and I'm not sure what Shelter she is speaking of.

My experience is very different. I have always had good communication with the staff (respect is a two way street) and I have always been impressed by the skills and kindness of all staff members (office, kennel, field and clinic). It is not Nirvana but I'm not sure that an "open door shelter," has that possibility.

Basically the job of our County Shelter is to clean up for societal ills...not an easy job really :-). I do know for a fact that with each year, the Shelter's euthanasia rate declines and adoption rates increase. I welcome all to visit our County Shelter and get a first-hand look at the good work being done there. You may even find your next best friend there....a dog, cat, goat, llama, hamster, bunny, chicken, etc. etc...

I think its terribly sad the same old people who have worked and volunteered at Animal Care and Control and continue to be ok with the killings and the suffering that goes on at this shelter for a long time. Posts like this notice how people don't ever reply or join in the conversation. Everyone knows this place is horrid , neglect and abuse, and suffering everyday. They would put you in jail for what they do.

Same old people doing the same old thing killing our animals;without regard even when someone is on the way to get them. oh lets all go into the room and watch them die .

A Board Aide we all know who she is. and the same 2 volunteers have created problems for our animals. How is it that people believe so much of this gossip . Our high school days is over people this is the big people world.

Perception -v- the truth ( records and documents) there cannot be any lies with that. verbal abuse is common with these people.
Cheers for the 2 volunteers that had the guts to step up and tell the truth. You can hold you heads high. Its how they keep people silent . living in fear everyday so they won't talk. WILL YOU BE NEXT !
Those 2 ladies had guts most of us don't coming forward.
