"Symphony of the Soil" film recommendation

Following is information on one of the most beautiful films that I have ever seen, "Symphony of The Soil." It is based on interviews with soil scientists and the music is simply incredible. It is by Deborah Koons Garcia, the widow of the Dead's Jerry Garcia and the maker of "The Future of Food." It is not yet widely available. I have ordered a copy for Dominican University's library. I saw it a couple of months ago at a preview at SSU at a soil conference.

    Hello Soil Community!

Happy Holidays! We thought we'd drop you a line and let you know how Symphony of the Soil is progressing, where we've been and where we are going.

Since its premiere at The Smithsonian Museum of Natural History in The Environmental Film Festival in the Nation's Capital, Symphony of the Soil has enjoyed a lively run at many film, food and farming festivals in this country and around the world. I’ve traveled with the film to wonderful gatherings including The Common Ground Fair in Maine, the Heirloom Seed Expo, at Stone Barns, The Curzon Theater in London sponsored by the Soil Association, SXSWEco, Town Hall in Seattle sponsored by University of Washington, Vashon Island, Open Cinema in Victoria, and at Iowa State and University of Northern Iowa, courtesy of the Leopold Center. The film has been translated into several languages and has been shown in Argentina at a World Bank Film Festival, at the Life Sciences Film Festival in Prague where it won an award, in Istanbul, UK, Japan and Bali.

We've shown the film at universities such as UC Davis and UC Merced, at the Iowa Organic Farmers Conference and academic conferences like the Soil Science Society of America/American Society of Agronomy/Crop Science Society of America International Annual Meeting, a convention of 4000 soil scientists. Symphony of the Soilhas also been enjoyed at dozens of community screenings in the US and abroad. If you are interested in setting up a community screening email: [email protected]

We are planning to have a theatrical premiere in New York this Spring followed by a short but exciting theatrical tour around this country. Future events include my keynote address and screening at the Canadian Organic Growers Conference in Toronto, Wild and Scenic Film Festival, The Princeton Film Festival and a screening at Bard College. Check our website for updates about screenings in your area.

We are just about to ship our first batch of pre-orders of Symphony of the Soil so people can share the film with their friends and family during the holidays. If you want to buy the film (and receive it pronto) you can do so here until Saturday, December 1st. Our next pre-order shipment will be sent out in late Spring.

We are now selling and shipping our Symphony of the SoilEducational Collection through our website for use in classrooms and on campuses.

As more and more citizens become concerned about genetically engineered crops and food, my classic documentary The Future of Food continues to play a key role in educating the public about the many problems associated with the GMO regime. The film is currently available as a free stream and for purchase directly through our websitewww.thefutureoffood.com

Thank you for your support. All of us at Lily Films wish you a wonderful holiday season.

    Very best,
    Deborah Koons Garcia
