Looking for recipients of free kids' bikes

Community Bikes has a surplus of kids' bikes that we are wanting to find an agency, school, or group that we would be happy to donate them to. There are, perhaps twenty or so used bikes. Some of them will need some simple repairs.

We're happy to consider any of your suggestions. Please reply to me here rather than the shop. Thank you.

Community Bikes is located at 4019 Sebastopol Road on the west side of Santa Rosa. It is a non-profit, volunteer run bicycle shop.

Trips for Kids is an international 501(c)(3) program that began in San Rafael more than two decades ago, when I was actively involved in the venture. The original Marin chapter funds its program of taking inner city kids on mountain bike trips in part by running the Re-Cyclery, a bike shop that employs children who learn employable skills and values while earning (and building) bicycles themselves. So long as the bikes you want to donate are made up of quality components (subject to the Re-Cyclery's guidelines*), you can be sure the bikes will be cared for, used for learning, and will fund further good works in the region. See the preceding link for full details about making donations of bikes, supplies, and apparel and thanks for sharing the wealth of your program to support others!

    T4K Donation Guidelines:

    * We gladly accept children's teen or adult bikes in good condition (missing parts are okay), and any bike-related items: clothing, helmets, lights, bike racks, tires, tubes, wheels, and rims that are clean & rust-free.

Please note that bikes that fall into the following categories may be charged a $10 fee which is necessary to pay our disposal costs:

    • Adult bikes with steel wheels, low end components and purchased for under $200.
    • Department store bikes; eg Huffy, Magna, JC Penney, Pacific, Next brands.
    • Plastic tricycles, 'Big Wheels' or wheeled bikes made completely out of plastic.
    • Bikes that were stored outdoors and are rusted.

How about The Living Room--the drop in center for women and children in Santa Rosa? Maybe kids there need a bike.

And there's the thrift store in Guerneville that gives away lots of stuff.
