The only time I've had the flu is when I've received the vaccination, so NO shot for me, thank you.

Question for Waccobians - If H1N1 flu shots were available to you right now, at your primary care outlet, at the regular price paid there, would you get a shot?
I got mine last week. Took just a moment, didn't hurt much, and was free from my health plan.

I used to skip the flu shot, but now that I've got young kids in the household, including one with asthma, a pregnant wife, plus a relative with a compromised immune system due to cancer treatment, it's certainly something we all take care of diligently.

I subscribe to the germ theory of disease, believe in the scientific method, and like the idea of training my body to produce the antibodies that will be used to protect me when infection strikes. Three cheers for modern medicine!

I tried it once - made no difference. I never get the flu any way. Like Nico said " I eat my Kale!" No flu shot for me. (don't know where the poll is other than stating an opinion here. : )

the germ theory of disease has proven to be very powerful, and incomplete. hygene theory has just as much scientific evidence, however it is more difficult to make money with. children raised in community, with dogs and other critters, significant outside time, and older siblings have stronger immune systems and far less auto immune diseases, like asthma. basically we need to use our immune systems to maintain and develop them properly. i expose myself to every flu and cold i encounter and think of them as genetic updates. flu shots are for wimps.

But although many of us may make our own informed decision as to whether or not to get the Flu vaccine or any other vaccine for that matter, there is EXTREME pressure for young mothers on Medi-cal giving birth to babies that they MUST get the vaccine to continue to qualify for benefits. My daughter was required to have the flu vaccine herself, and the baby was required to have a Hep B vaccine at birth plus a second dose at just under two months. All the research I saw pointed to extremely rare possibilities for a baby to contract Hep B unless the mother or other household members are infected. There could have been a way for her to not get it, declaring it was against her religion or something, but it was not an easy clear cut decision to make.

Re: H1N1 Flu Shot - Would You Get One?

How is it, exactly, that someone can REQUIRE a parent to give consent for a child to be immunized? Did they threaten to do it without her consent or terminate the Medi-cal coverage? Some other strong-arm method?

the whole Hepatitis B shot at birth thing is a dangerous scam. As you correctly pointed out, the chances of an American baby getting infected with HepB is very small unless the mother is infected with it. The HepB immunization has been identified as one of the worst ones for making a real mess with the child's immune system.

Add that to the other pile of immunizations and such that American babies are exposed to in the first 2 years of life and you have a major assault on their immune system. To make matters even worse, there's the toxic chemical soup that is a reality of our industrialized lifestyle and environmental pollution. Every time a woman breastfeeds her child, it is essentially a download of the toxins built up in her body.

Thank goodness that California was one of the first states to pull the plug on paying for male genital mutilation (circumcision) with public funds, ie MediCal/Medicaid. Otherwise they probably would have bullied her in to having that done to her child too if it was a boy. (the genitals of girls are protected by federal law.) Incidentally, this wise move is one of the reasons why so many Californian boys/men born after 1982 have all of the equipment that Mother Nature saw fit to provide, and California is close to having a majority intact male population, if it is not there already. Once nobody was willing to pay for it, the "need" evaporated.

Re: H1N1 Flu Shot - Would You Get One?

No; it confuses and suppresses my natural immune system.

Also, I checked with my Chinese Doctor; who has helped my health so much. She agrees that vaccines weaken your natural defenses.

I get great help against bacteria, viruses and cancer; with the immune system blend of mushrooms from New Chapter. They've been on sale at Whole Foods.

I heard they work better if you make them as tea, rather than just swallowing the capsules. I add some tasty tea bags to the mix.

    WolfCub,

You might have noticed that Tars initiated the poll over two years ago. At that time and for years before he was an active Waccoon with a distinct voice and presence here. Your suspicious questioning is misplaced.

My sense is that in the last year or more, Tars has not been active here. Along with a number of other regulars who have found greener pastures. Some of them are my friends on Facebook. Specifically: SonomaMark, Braggi, Decterlove, Clancy and others whose names do not spring to mind. Other waccoons with distinct characters are no longer active, but I do not see them in other venues.

I know for a fact that part of the reason the Waccoons I know are no longer here, is their disgust at the futility in debating those who fall into the general category of "Magical Thinkers". i.e. advocates of specious theories based on unquestioned and unsupported belief. The proponents of which, of course, deny that their pet theories are unquestioned and unsupported.

Opinions Differ. Some of the opinionated get fed up with the repetitious debate that leads nowhere, never is resolved and just becomes the same old, same old. But that is insufficient evidence to suspect them of malign intent.

You're not a paranoid conspiracy monger are you? If not, cool. If so, you may be in the right place!

P.S. Just checked after writing the above:

So, you didn't really "check" his posts, did you? Certainly not all of them and not the most recent ones.

P.P.S. I learned earlier this evening that search result URL's do not stay active here on the board. Just look at Tars profile, and his posts, under "Recent Posts" and he clearly says farewell to Waccovia in his last several entries. That was over a year ago.

Tars was an active and valued partipant for many years. I always appreciated his level headed point of view. Sadly, he hasn't been around here much lately. I'd be surprised and delighted if he replied.

He had a knack for asking engaging questions. I'm not sure what motivated it, but I think he appreciated a good conversation and community interaction.

    Here's to hoping he reappears!

Hello, i checked out your other posts and it seems you have an interest in taking public opinion polls on controversial issues. May I ask what the purpose is for?

No, i've heard too many stories, from people close to the sufferers, of ill consequences
from the shot. If i'm around someone who's sick--or around a lot of people in general--
i do a nasal rinse every day. All cold and flu viruses take 48 to reach numbers high enough
to colonize the whole body, so a daily rinse wipes them out before they can reach that point.

Let's reserve this thread for members to chime in, unchallenged, as to whether or not they plan to get a H1N1 Flu Shot and why.

So all you lurkers out there, please post your thoughts here without fear!

You're hardly a lurker! I meant people who haven't posted anything (or very little) on WaccoBB.

Here's a nice easy way to make that annoying "how about posting something" message go away!

Re: H1N1 Flu Shot - Would You Get One?

I've been down for a week with some nasty virus, and if it had been preventable with a shot, I would have preferred the shot -- and I would have preferred not to spread the virus to my friends and family.

Someone like me -- elderly and with a lifelong history of compromised lung health from growing up with cigarette smokers -- has to consider the social price of ignoring a potentially-viable preventive, even without considering the toll on my body in fighting off one more infection. And before you ask, yes, I have used alternative methods of health care for 40 years and I eat a healthy diet.

I didn't get the shot when I could because of all the hoopla and argument, but I might get it after I feel better. I'm old anyway, so a little formaldahyde might help preserve me ...
