I keep intending to post the occasional movie recommendation but usually forget until it's too late. But not this time!
The other night I saw Midnight in Paris, Woody Allen's latest. I try to see all of his stuff, but must admit that nearly everything he's put out in about the last quarter-century (!) has been forgettable. Even his relatively well-received stuff, such as Vicki Christina Barcelona and Match Point, were forgettable. But not so this new one! Midnight in Paris is one of Woody's best movies ever! Due largely to word-of-mouth buzz, it's shaping up into quite a hit, and there's even some Oscar buzz. It's funny (but not quite as light and silly as his early comedies), and wise and charming. Two thumbs (both mine) way up!!! As I write this, it's playing at the Summerfield Theater for at least another week. Check it out--especially if you're tired of the usual Hollywood brew of explosions, gunplay, superheroes, gore, and sophomoric humor!
