Hi Everybody,
This system has been up for two weeks now and I would like to get some feedback on what you think of it? From the feedback I’ve gotten so far, I know the user interface needs some work, such as:
- Posting clear posting guidelines for the site:
-Post to only 1 category
-What’s paid (WaccoPages Business directory and Services Offered) and what’s free (everything else, including all events!)
-What to do if an item is sold, etc. (update your message or reply to it)
- Creating a page on the website where you can see/control all your email settings for all categories (no email, individual emails, daily digest, weekly digest) and whether you want them to include public replies
- Be able to directly reply to individual emails without going to the website
- Make the “New Posts” option bring up all the threads that had new posts in the last week or two, and be able to just click “Next” to go to the next thread
- Condense the digest a bit (you know you can click on a message subject and go right to the message, right?)
- Change the “Create New Topic” button to “Post”
So before I dump a bunch more bucks and time into the system, I wanted to get a sense of how you feel about the general idea. It will still be based on the idea of going to the website, picking a category and posting there. You will have the ability to set your email preferences by category and/or use the website.
My hope was that as a community we would have decided to move as a whole to this system when it was ready. I don’t see that as a possibility anymore. So if I/we went ahead, it would create separate, and to some extent, an overlapping community. That doesn’t feel good to me, yet, it still seems to me like this site may provide a better vehicle as the WaCCO community continues to grow.
I know that for some of you, the idea of accessing and controlling the system by categories is appealing and for others it creates confusion. So there may be a place for two systems.
Just WaccoPages Business Directory?
Another option is to use Wacco-bb Yahoogroup for all bulletin board postings and just use this site for the WaCCO Pages Business Directory. I hope there could be a link on the Wacco-bb site and emails to this site. It would be an easy way for the members of Wacco-bb and perhaps the larger west county progressive community to find and choose a particular service provider and a way for the many creative and dedicated service providers on Wacco-bb, as well as those referred by members and other business that serve the progressive community of western Sonoma County, to promote their offerings. The listings could include images and fonts or could link directly to the provider’s website. I’m thinking something like $5.95/month or $50/year.
I am most interested to hear what you think of this idea, from both people who think they would use such a service and those who would be interested in advertising their services.
Please let me know your HONEST thoughts on this, either publicly or privately. While I totally appreciate your support, I want to know you what you think is best for you and the community in the long run.
