Can I refuse to install a SmartMeter if I am a Renter?

Can I refuse to install if I'm a renter? Will they contact my landlord?

Shouldn't you be the one to contact your landlord? Doesn't it depend on what they say? I suppose if the PG&E account is in your name, that might make some difference.

The fact that you are not the property owner complicates things but you could investigate it further. Where to investigate, I don't know. Maybe an attorney that specializes in tenant's rights?

We do own our property and we put up a sign on our PG&E gas line terminal (which sits outside our house, of course). The sign simply reads, "NO SMART METER."

    Hope this helps.

Why not do yourself, your neighbors and community, and your landlord a favor and just tell PG&E you refuse the thing?

If you have an account w PG&E and pay the monthly bill then you are the one to refuse PG&E's Smart Meter, not the landlord.

Please go to www.emfsafetynetwork.org and click on Action Alert tab to learn how to refuse, sign on online letter to CPUC and state legislators requesting a moratorim, and to download a sign to place next to your gas and electric meters (best to sign and date your refuse SM sign). Click on Smart Meter tab to read recent news articles and learn about what's happening in the state of CA and other places in the USA and world.

    Other very good web sites:

    www.turn.org (Utility Reform Network)

https://www.yourownhealthandfitness.org/SmartMeter.php (KPFA radio hosts Layna Berman and Dr. Jeffry Fawcett's web site)

    https://stopsmartmeters.wordpress.com/

https://refusesmartmeter.com/ to learn more and order bumber stickers, signs and banners, etc.

Thanks everyone for the info. I have chronic health issues so I will try to block the installation. Just not wanting to cause any trouble for landlord as I can't work , have a recent foreclosure, and 2 dogs, and would like to continue to rent here.
