    Preservation Ranch is Preserved!

[This is a huge win! This was shaping up to be a battle royale, and we won, no doubt thanks to the persistant resistance to the development proposal by many dedicated activists. It's equally a huge win for Efren Carrillo, whom this article credits as the "driving force" behind this agrement. - Barry]

A national conservation group has reached an agreement to buy nearly 20,000 acres of timberland in northwestern Sonoma County, a move that derails the long-disputed, forest-to-vineyards conversion project pushed by CalPERS, the giant state workers pension fund.

The $24.5 million purchase of the so-called Preservation Ranch, to be completed by the end of May, is led by The Conservation Fund, based in Virginia. It would contribute up to $6 million toward the purchase.

    Re: Preservation Ranch is Preserved!

This is indeed great news! And I think it is important to note that most activists, as it said in the article, believe Efren was for Preservation Ranch, so I would be hesitant to give him credit for this wonderful turn of events.
We still need to keep our collective eye on the Artesa Vineyard project as this may be used as a tradeoff, i.e. well we got PReservation Ranch so we need to acquiese to Artesa, when that would be a travesty as well.

I think its best to not jump on any politician's bandwagon and just be clear about each issue as it comes up, apply the proper pressure and bring the awareness necessary to protect our earth and all her beings.
The people need to keep leading and the politicians will follow or be left behind.

    As Dylan said:
    "don't speak too soon
For the wheel's still in spin
    And there's no tellin' who
    That it's namin'
    For the loser now
    Will be later to win
For the times they are a-changin'.

    Come senators, congressmen
    Please heed the call
    Don't stand in the doorway
    Don't block up the hall
    For he that gets hurt
Will be he who has stalled
    There's a battle outside
    And it is ragin'

    Your activist at large, Magick

This is a great victory. These land conservation groups are doing a fantastic job. Any chance of a park or some kind of public access in the future?
