Why Is Michael Chertoff So Excited About Full-Body Scanners? & Legislators speaking out

    https://gawker.com/5437499/why-is-mi...+body-scanners

    excerpts

Heading up the renewed push for those controversial, clothes-penetrating scanners at airports is former homeland security secretary Michael Chertoff. His consulting firm represents companies who make the scanners, but you wouldn't know it from reading the papers.

But when Chertoff launched into his pitch for full-body scanners on Campbell Brown tonight, we learned that he is paid by the very companies who make the penetrating devices (video)

In 2009, Chertoff founded the Chertoff Group, a security consulting agency. The Chertoff Group's client list is unknown—Chertoff refused to talk about it in an interview—but he admits in the clip (in article) that some of his clients manufacture full-body scanners.

Yet when he appears in The New York Times, The Washington Post, and on NPR to advocate for full-body scanning, Chertoff is identified only as a former secretary of homeland security.

Did Chertoff 'forget' to tell reporters about his connection to the industry he's pimping in their stories? It didn't look like he was about to volunteer the information on Campbell Brown tonight. [Campbell Brown questions him]

New Jersey Legislators take on the TSA

Senator Michael J. Doherty (R-Hunterdon, Warren) and Senator James Beach (D-Camden) today announced they will present resolutions to the Senate and Assembly calling on the U.S. Congress to end TSA screening procedures requiring full body scans and pat downs at U.S. airports Their action comes in response to widespread concerns over privacy and radiation, as well as reports of inappropriate conduct by TSA agents during the screening process.

“The pursuit of security should not force Americans to surrender their civil liberties or basic human dignity at a TSA checkpoint,” said Doherty. “Subjecting law-abiding American citizens to naked body scans and full body pat downs is intolerable, humiliating, vulnerable to abuse, and is fast becoming a disincentive to travel. Particularly concerning to us is the fact that physical searches result in children being touched in private areas of the body. Terrorists hate America because of the freedoms upon which this great nation was built. By implementing these screening measures, the TSA has already handed a victory to those who seek to destroy our freedoms"

That is so great that these senators are teaming up to fight this massively violating technique. I just hope that they don't put forth some other security measure that would be more invasive, such as biometric eye scanners. I watched an interview with some lady who was an opponent to these TSA body scanners, and at first I thought to myself, how cool is it that this woman is saying this great stuff on CNN, but then the anchorman asked her what the alternative solution should be, she replied, biometrics, or FBI background checks on anyone who buys an airplane ticket. Ouch. I really like Ron Paul's legislation that he is introducing, which is only one paragraph long. I posted a video of his proposal to congress earlier this day. You all can watch it here: https://www.waccobb.net/forums/showthread.php?73953-Ron-Paul-quot-It-s-Time-To-Shrug-Off-The-Shackles-Of-This-Government!-quot&p=124861&highlight=#post124861
