Unfortunately, millions seem to do just that. It's mind-boggling, that Obama is continuing the Bush/GOP agenda in every meaningful respect; torture, renditions, illegal wars, bailouts to Wall St and the monstrous bailout to the 'health industry', landmines, rubber-stamping 26 more deep water oil wells even after the latest disaster, nominating a supreme court justice that would make the GOP salivate...

But... but! Give us a nice show of making fun of the GOP and millions of dems think everything's just fine.

America seems to have entered the Twilight Zone. Obama's doing the very things we marched by the millions to protest when Bush did them, yet the democrats don't seem to notice, and the republicans think Obama's a socialist.

I don't believe that Obama is putting it to anybody but the majority of people who hoped that he was progressive. His actions should serve as a reminder that change will not come from the status-quo[dems and reps] and therefor will not come from the system currently in place. A redirection of energy and creative initiative is necessary. Particularly self initiative to gather diverse perspectives of our history in order to better understand this pattern that our species seems to often find itself in[ being ruled by those with selfish interests]. Peace.

Key word is "hoped", and I question whether they are "the majority", except around here maybe. Labels are tricky, and change depending on a person's political predisposition. You are correct, he's not a "progressive", as many had hoped.

Each person has their own idea about what the most important issues are, so there's bound to be frustration. I think that too many people have unreal expectations about what can be accomplished in a two-party political system, such as we have. Realistically, a president has 1-2 years at best, to accomplish anything meaningful, before the posturing and politicking for the next round of elections bogs everything down hopelessly. As we've seen with Obama, necessity forces a decision about which handful of issues that can be addressed.

Obama, like all potential Presidents, had somewhat grandiose ideas about what he would (could!) do once he got into office. Unfortunately, what he actually got do do is try to address 25 years of GOP (add your own adjective) mis-management.

To me, even though he's a centrist, and a lot lower-key than I thought he'd be, he's a breath of fresh air after the last 8 years of total presidential dysfunction.

I too prefer bright, articulate corporate puppets to embarrassing doofuses any day.

It's a testament to the power of propaganda that people believe Obama's policies are in any way of substance different that Bush, but he IS enjoyable to watch after 8 years of Dubya.

    I never did.
It was actually a cliff and what is metaphorically called the "ditch" is actually a deep ravine below the cliff.

:creditcardsacceptedafter the banks, CEO's, and special interests etc. looted the contents of of the car after it went off the cliff, the sleazy used-car salesman is trying to sell us the wrecked car!

Now people are talking and acting seriously to put the same group of drunks (GOP) back behind the wheel of a new car whom are just going to force us to buy a new car (Hummer) for lots of money because the other one (they drove off the cliff) is unrepairable!

Then, they will tell us that it (the Hummer) is obsolete shortly thereafter, and then they will force all of us onto the old bus; the back of the bus!
Some of those buses will go directly to labor camps; to help pay for the debt they got us into in the first place, and claim it's unpatriotic to complain about it to boot!

HELLO, who just gave the insurance industry hundreds of billions under the guise of HCR? Obama

Who gave the same banksters that drove us off a cliff a trillion dollars as soon as he got in office? Obama

Who was Obama's largest campaign donor? Goldman Sachs

When will people wake up? We no longer have opposition parties, our system has been hijacked.

    = Silver tonged Devil:
    Artist: Kristofferson Kris
Song: The Silver Tongued Devil and I
    Album: Essential Kris Kristofferson

"I took myself down to the Tally Ho Tavern,
To buy me a bottle of beer.
And I sat me down by a tender young maiden,
Who's eyes were as dark as her hair.
And as I was searching from bottle to bottle,
    For something un-foolish to say.
That silver tongued devil just slipped from the shadows,
    And smilingly stole her away.

I said: "Hey, little girl, don't you know he's the devil.
    "He's everything that I ain't.
    "Hiding intentions of evil,
"Under the smile of a saint.
"All he's good for is getting in trouble,
"And shiftin' his share of the blame.
"And some people swear he's my double:
"And some even say we're the same.
"But the silver-tongued devil's got nothing to lose,
"I'll only live 'til I die.
"We take our own chances and pay our own dues,
"The silver tongued devil and I."

Like all the fair maidens who've laid down beside him,
She knew in her heart that he'd lied.
Nothin' that I could have said could have saved her,
No matter how hard that she tried.
'Cos she'll offer her charms to the darkness and danger,
Of somethin' that she's never known.
And open her arms at the smile of a stranger,
Who'll love her and leave her alone.:serinade:

And you know, he's the devil.
    He's everything that I ain't.
    Hiding intentions of evil,
Under the smile of a saint.
All he's good for is getting in trouble,
And shiftin' his share of the blame.
And some people swear he's my double:
And some even say we're the same.
But the silver-tongued devil's got nothing to lose,
I'll only live 'til I die.
We take our own chances and pay our own dues,
    Ah ha ha ha.

The silver tongued devil and I."

Personally, the last thing that I would be thinking if my car was going over a cliff or into a ditch is how nice my car looks or sounds. I would be trying to get out of that car ASAP.

We have zero chance of getting out of this system. The supreme court just ruled that corporations can spend unlimited amounts of cash on the puppet of their choice.

    Our democracy is dead.

Do you mean bail-out?! isn't that what happened... the bailout?

Some of us did try to get the attention of the driver before the driver lost control; so to speak, and tell them that we were going towards a cliff, because we knew we had no chance to actually exit the careening proverbial car during the Bush administration. But the Bush administration instead of listening to us did not give half of a rat’s hind quarter about us or what we were trying to say (people that are drunken, seldom do); instead they (got belligerent and) put up no protest zones! In doing so, they locked the doors of the proverbial car and then proceeded to drive it off the cliff into the ravine with us in it! In doing so put us in an inescapable situation (there was no bailing out for us!).

Gee, that was such a nice car before it went off the cliff into the ravine wasn't it?... … I'm sure that's what the Obama administration thought too.
And because the Bush administration previously hooked up the tow truck to the car and had it part way up the cliff, the Obama administration was advised to at least get the proverbial car onto the road and have it towed to a mechanic and have it inspected. After all, it was already hooked up to the tow truck. They couldn't just leave it there part way up the remaining cliff or on the roadway at that point.
(The previous administration already signed the contract.).

At the time there was no proverbial replacement car, but there was a need to get on down the road, there was no bus service, train stations, or airports there either, heck there weren't even any horses! (back in his time, Ronald Reagan would have at least chose a horse; at least back then, there would have been a horse. LOL!).

The previous administration not only drove it off the cliff into a ravine, they had us way out in the boonies where there was nothing but the road that had a steep cliff on one side of it and a steep embankment on the other side of it.

Then to make matters worse, there was a choice that needed a rather swift decision. Unfortunately, the choice had to be made in the committee forum with some of the drunks in that committee who came from the same drunken party scene that the driver whom drove it off the cliff in the first place came from.

Because of the contract that the previous administration had signed; (therefore creating a precedent, commitment, and obligation), There was very little choice.

Unfortunately the choice that was made was made in favor of the things that the political donors wanted instead of what the American people needed.

Unfortunately using the car analogy of in the ditch or off the cliff isn't really strong enough. It was more like a passenger bus
(or maybe even a passenger train going where there was no tracks?) full of people!!!...
...that's the part I think Obama still doesn't get! It was a bus full of us citizens so to speak; not just a few executives in a luxury car.

So the executives get a new luxury car from General Motors, General Motors gets a handsome sum for it so they can afford to buy another private jet:spacecar:, and we get the
shaft from the old wrecked car! {which is twisted and mangled beyond repair from the wreck}.

Now we have to take the frigging old bus with a bunch of other grumpy people; with one major exception, there is far less bus service in our state because of the big budget cuts the governor is going to make!

There never was any light rail
in this area. Now that is put on an indeterminate time hold.
