Clean Air & Health Care Rally
Thursday, July 23, noon to 1 PM
Courthouse Square, Santa Rosa

MoveOn.Org’s Sonoma County Council is sponsoring a Clean Air & Health Care rally in Santa Rosa on Thursday, July 23, from noon to 1:00 PM at Courthouse Square (Mendocino Avenue between Third and Fourth Streets). The rally will highlight two momentous pieces of federal legislation under consideration by the U.S. Senate.

It will support the efforts of Senator Barbara Boxer, who chairs the Environment and Public Works Committee, to strengthen the American Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009 (ACES), which has passed the House. The legislation includes goals for energy efficiency, alternative green technologies, and combating global warming, and will begin the transition to a clean energy economy for the United States. Specifically, MoveOn.org is demanding that the Environmental Protection Agency retain its power under the Clean Air Act to regulate greenhouse gasses, and that the percentage target for renewable energy sources be increased.

On health care, MoveOn.org supports President Obama’s principles that comprehensive health care reform reduce costs, ensure access to quality care for all Americans, and provide choice, including a robust public insurance option. The rally will urge Senator Dianne Feinstein to support comprehensive health care reform with a strong public option plan.
Speakers at the rally will include will include Veronica Jacobi, Santa Rosa City Council; Kathleen Shaffer, Sebastopol City Council; Efren Carrillo, Sonoma County Supervisor, Jared Huffman, California Assembly; Lisa Maldonado, North Bay Central Labor Council,;and Barry Cogbill of Solar Sonoma County.
