Peas In Our Time..

I woke up this morning, I was thinking about peas,
I was thinking we've only begun to tap the possibilities...
of finding peas, growing peas, sharing peas, and such;
of sharing peas and knowing peas, you really can't do too much..

Peas in my kitchen, peas on the farm;
peas are tasty and portable, and they never do any harm..
They can be tiny, they can be fat, you can puree or steam them,
eat em raw, or in in the pod; try to feed them to your cat;

Okay, your cat may not like them, I admit that may be true,
but peas are very good and nutritious for me, and him, or her and you..
Give peas a chance, that's all I'm asking for,
If you like them, pass them on, plant em, pick em, have some more!

When I sleep at night, sometimes I have a dream;
peas for one and all, peas in butter, peas in cream,
peas in salad, peas in soup, peas alone or in a group..
peas for the poor or peas for the rich, then who could determine which was which?

Peas to all of us, without reservation, even peas for the ruling elite,
Peas for the many with unresolved issues, and the few who are complete..
peas for the complacent, or the bored, or lost in frustration
Peas for the cowboys and for the Native American Nation;

Peas for anyone who cares at all, peas for those ready to plant or to haul,
to pick or to shell, we need you, please heed the call!
To pick and to shuck and to wash and to nibble,
to toss and to spoon and to roll and to dribble..

The lowly pea can teach us many good things,
as they happily grow through their changes, entwined on their strings..
Peas though diminutive, soon will grow tall,
Peas can be tasty, sweet and filling, though they are so small..

So come one and come all, across this great land,
across the globe, in the jungles, or great cities, or in the trackless sand,
let's get it together, this is not so hard to do..
give peas a chance, for me and him and her and you!
