It's hard to believe that there is little discussion about Sebastopol's proposal to tax their citizen's PG&E bills. The city does nothing to provide electric and gas utilities to PG&E's residential and commercial customers. The city council claims that the new tax will fund police, fire, roads, etc. But the proposed 4% tax on Sebastopol's residential and commercial customers will be collected by PG&E and deposited in Sebastopol's general fund. The city council can use these funds for any essential service or non-essential project or program it desires. This is a poor way to augment the city's coffers and it opens the door for future creative proposals to further tax Sebastopol's residents and businesses.
