    Yuba River Camping Swimming Recommendations

Our family of three had plans for a wonderful trip to Humboldt county for a week of exceptional swimming and hiking on the beautiful Klamath and Salmon Rivers (all this while staying on a fantastic permaculture farm..Sandy Bar Ranch) Sadly our plans have been foiled due to heavy smoke. We have a precious week and are trying to find replacement plans.

Does anyone have inside information or leads about special Yuba River camping spots? We are especially interested in a delightful camping settings, river swimming (with some areas thrilling and appropriate for our three year old) and great hiking. We will also be exploring toward Tahoe if anything comes to mind in that direction.

    Many thanks.

    Yuba rocks!
go up 49 from Nevada City to North San Juan just a little farther is
a great little camp area called Moonshine Camp sorry I don't have their no. but I'll bet it's listed. great swimming at camp, walk up river for nicer and nicer "holes" gets clothing optional after a mile or so.

Moonshine Campground is history. It's been so for a few years now. If you
drive further north on highway 49, to the next bridge, there's a pretty decent camping, picnicing, swimming spot called Oregon Creek on the far side of the bridge. It even has a rope you can swing on and jump off of into the water. It's great fun in the sun!

    Hi Kamala,

We were just up there a couple weeks ago and the river was beautiful! If you go to the South Yuba spot, just off 49 there is a great swimming hole right under the bridge, as well as many other more private locations if you head upstream. Our nephews (5 and 1 1/2) did just fine there. We always camp at Malakoff Diggins, which is a ways further up 49. It is a historical site and has activities such as town tours and gold panning...even if you are not up for those, the sites are large and it has never been crowded while we were there. It is about 15-20 minutes from the river, however. Have a great time! Julie
