Hello All,
Has anyone heard of weaving baskets with fig branches?
I'm pruning a long neglected Fig tree, and am getting some long & flexible branches. I hate to see them go to waste.
Could it work?
Thanks,
Laurie

If you can make a hoop with them, without them breaking, hoop them up (twist them around in a circle, weaving it around), then you can have hoops for future wreaths. Or the hoops can become the stucture of type of basket that uses 2 hoops and more branches for the spokes. They should be hooped up when fresh, then let to dry as they shrink.
Good Luck

This sounds like it would be similar to weaving a basket with willow branches. It would help to remove the bark, cut the branches down to thin slats, and soak the slats in water to keep them supple.
