INTRO
Experienced in-home caregiver, 57, in good health. Professional background in Silicon Valley, and as a teacher for 11 years (of Spanish and English) before this.
Feel called to do this work.

Looking for a steady commitment through the winter, to March 31st, 2021.

Speak American English (native language), Mexican Spanish, and Parisian French. Born and raised in Mexico City of English parents. French degree from Smith.

Pets a plus - not allergic.

PHASES (as I see them)

Phase 1
Can walk under own steam

Phase 2
Walk haltingly; need to stop/pause

Phase 3
Walk with cane

Phase 4
Walk with walker; can get to the bathroom

Phase 5
Walk with walker; in room toilet

Phase 6
Wheelchair and diapers.
This phase is the realm of nursing. CNA (Certified Nurse's Assistant) required.

WHO
Looking for a person (or two) in Phase 1-3, or newly in Phase 4, who can truly get to the bathroom on their own. They might need help in and out of bed, and might prefer someone to walk alongside them, in case they need steadying.

Person needs to be able to wipe themselves, and to pull their underwear down and up.

Old or young. Female or male. Any color, any creed not hateful, any national origin, sexual orientation.

DAY Option. $25/hour. Max 20 hrs/wk.
Examples:

Personal and Home
Dressing the person
Food prep and making simple meals
Running errands with them or for them
Grocery shopping with or for them, or ordering online for home delivery
Do strengthening and stretching exercises together

Medical
Phone calls (medical appointments referrals)
Help with insurance calls and coverage
Rides to and from doctors' appointments
Take notes during appointments, ask questions, advocate for person's wishes
Organize daily medications together

Interpersonal
Reading aloud to them (English, Spanish, French) fiction or non, and discussion
Company, conversation
Walks and outings
Do and finish projects together: e.g., sewing, quilting, writing and editing, art, gardening, cooking
Crosswords, acrostics, jigsaw puzzles
Listen to music together

Social
Phone calls
Send emails, write letters
Make cards, choose and send presents (online or in person)

Prefer to stay away from helping people with their banking or finances, unless expressly asked for by the person and their family. If everyone is in agreement, then with very clear boundaries, like reconciling a checking account only.

NIGHT Option. $2,000/month. 7 nights/week.
Live-in.

Help to the bathroom 1-4 times per night (more than that probably needs nursing)
Person needs to be able to wipe themselves, and pull their underwear down and up
Person needs to have the cognitive ability to ring a bell/press a buzzer to summon me, and their willingness to do so
Help in and out of bed

WHY HIRE ME ?
First, this is a relationship of mutual trust and respect. Therefore, it has to be a match between the person and me.
That said,
A consistent presence in the time of COVID is safer - less exposure if fewer caregivers.
I am cheaper than an agency, and provide the same care - or better.
The person tends to do better with familiarity and continuity in their lives, as do we all.
I bring a good education, my own spirit, and the desire, and willingness, to do this work well.

Independent contractor or W-2.
