Seeks Market Manager

The Occidental Community Farmers’ Market is seeking a committed and dynamic individual to lead the OCFM as Market Manager and help build the market into a long-term institution serving the greater Occidental community.

The Market Manager is a part-time position with primary responsibility being the day-to-day successful operation of the farmers market with attendance on all market days for the season, representing the market to the market’s vendors, patrons, volunteers, local businesses and the community.

Hours vary from approximately 12-15 hours per week during market season to approximately 4 hours per week off-season. The manager reports to the steering committee, which sets all market policy.

We may be able to secure additional support to meet the requirements of this position. For promising candidates, we are open to creative ideas about how this job might work best for you.
Qualifications

  • Prior management experience, including personnel management, budget responsibility, operations management and experience working with multiple constituencies/stakeholder groups; prior farmers market management experience preferred
  • Experience working with the public, experience in retail and/or other customer service experience preferred
  • People person with skills in diplomacy and dispute resolution
  • Good communication skills
  • Well-organized with ability to manage multiple areas of work simultaneously
  • Marketing skills an asset
  • Self-motivated
  • Familiar with and passionate about the West County community and local agriculture
We anticipate the compensation to be $20 to $25 per hour depending on experience.
