An annual performance of ceremonial Pomo dances by youth and adults in traditional regalia sharing the traditional songs of the Coastal Pomo people.
For 13,000 years, Pomo people have lived in Sonoma County. The site of their village, Batikletcawi (where elderberry grows), was on the bank of the Laguna de Santa Rosa, where Sebastopol now stands.
This is part of the 10th Pomo Honoring Month organized by local volunteers from the Pomo Project (www.pomoproject.org) to foster awareness of local indigenous Pomo history and traditions, support Pomo people having an active voice in contemporary challenges and value collaboration with all Pomo people toward reconciliation and understanding.
