Llano & Highway 12 Gas Station Proposal - August Updates

Hello All, some updates/info for early August...

First I want to say that I consulted with our wonderful Wacco host Barry about the best way to present this info. Since things change and are updated, and old stuff in previous posts may become obsolete, Barry recommended that I start new threads when there is new info. So this is a new one, and Barry has removed the old one/s in hopes of avoiding confusion.

OK, attached is a revised handout and petition. Both are revised to reflect that the fuel storage tanks are planned to be ABOVE GROUND, very close to the Joe Rodota trail. That might help address the leaking underground storage tank problem, but it introduces a whole new set of risks. In the handout we have also added our Facebook page and two other important recipients of letters, the two Planning Commissioners for County District 5, where the proposed gas station is located.

Handout: Share online, print, post on coffee shop bulletin boards, etc.
Petition: Print, get signatures from your neighbors, at your workplace, events, etc. and return them to me. (We can make arrangements)

If you have not yet sent an email/letter, please do. We have learned that letters are being noticed and are causing a stir! Let's keep stirring! Some points you can make:

    • There is no need for a gas station in this location. There are 7 existing stations within a 5-mile radius, one just a mile down the road
    • This proposal is out of line... it requires a General Plan Amendment and a zone change - what's the point of General Plans and zones if you change them for unnecessary thing like this?

See other points in the handout. Here the people to send your emails to:

As a reminder, this proposal will next come up at the County's Board of Zoning Adjustments (BZA). The BZA usually meets on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month at 1pm. There is no meeting on August 8. The next date it may be on the agenda is August 22. Mark your calendar and we will alert you as early as possible.

Lastly, for those of you who want to get more involved, we have a googlegroup where more frequent info updates and discussions occur. Contact me if you'd like to hop on that listserv.

    OK, that's all for now,

    Till next time,

Re: Llano & Highway 12 Gas Station Proposal - August Updates

Above ground storage? Wow! This is clearly a wish balloon. This kind of fuel storage has not been a public option since mid late twentieth century. Fires happen. Especially with the wider public gassing up their autos. Is this really a serious proposal?

Re: Llano/Highway 12 Gas Station Proposal - September Updates

Updates and Resources for Opposition to New Gas Station @ Llano/12

Hi Folks, Thank you for all of your help on this effort!

For regular updates, news & info about the proposed gas station at Llano/12, please join our listserv:!forum/no-gas

Confusion avoidance note: The construction going on at Hwy. 116 & Llano is not a gas station. I don't know what that is. This gas station proposal is at Llano & 12.

Below are some important dates in September to get on your calendar, a note on what we need at this time, and a few updates on where things are at with the proposal for a gas station, mini-mart, carwash, and RV storage yard at 5300 Sebastopol Road (Llano/12)...

    Here's what we need...

Letters-to-the-Editor - Press Democrat: Send in a letter to the Press Democrat!
    Email: [email protected]
See attached "LTE Help" sheet for details. Let's get a buzz going! For your email/letter, please customize and individualize it as much as possible. Include only the talking points that resonate most for you, or better yet, come up with your own points! But remember to keep it below 200 words!

Letters from organizations: We now have over 10 letters in the case file from Sonoma County-based organizations. If you are a member of a Sonoma County-based organization, see if they can send a letter if they haven't already. If you want to see some of the letters, let me know.

Letters/emails from individuals to the County decision-makers: Keep them coming, they're being noticed! If you have not yet written a personal letter, please do. Use the attached handout if you need a few talking points. It also has the info on where to send your email/letter. The main staff person is Daniel Hoffman [email protected]
If you send to him, he is required to include it in the case file where it is seen by all the decision-makers.

Posting Fliers: We need people who would like to have some fun going around town (Sebastopol? Santa Rosa? Somewhere in between?) posting fliers at places where you can post fliers (community centers, markets, cafés, etc.). The flier/flyer (whatever) is attached! Go for it!

Petitions: We currently have about 400 petition signatures. The more the better so if you can help gather signatures and need blank petitions, a blank is attached to this message.

Facebook Page: (sorry Barry) Please "like" it, share it, add to it! (whatever you do on FB, but do it)

September 8, 1pm to 7pm, Sonoma Mountain Village - Daily Acts Climate Action Concert. We will be sharing an info table with the No Gas Here! folks from Petaluma. We will be gathering petition signatures. If you would like to help at the table, please let me know.

September 20, Noon to 2pm, Courthouse Square, Santa Rosa - Solidarity with the Youth Climate Strike. We will have an info/petition table. Let me know if you can help.

Proposal Status: As a reminder, the next step for the proposal is a decision by the County's Board of Zoning Adjustments (BZA) to approve or deny a use permit. BZA meetings are generally on 2nd and 4th Thursdays at 1pm. However, the meeting will also include a California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) hearing for which there is a 30 day public review process, and as we have not yet received the requisite 30 days' notice, we're assuming the meeting will not come up during September. For more info see the Board of Zoning Adjustments website:

OK, that is all for today!
    Hope this was helpful!
