Losing your enthusiasm for making music? bored? given up?
I’ve inspired people to self-learn with piano and other instruments in a variety of settings, but I would now like to put more energy into doing this for others. Alex Kahn, Director of Orchestral Studies at SSU, heard me play and described my work as addressing “the alchemy of sound.” He invited me to appear as guest lecturer in his course. I think his term is an apt counterpoint to idea of "playing musical compositions" that speaks to my own transformational intentions. Perhaps it appeals to yours.
I have begun to identify the elements of what I have to offer that include the following principles:
SOUND ALCHEMY explores:
* Self-reflection and the alchemy of sound.
* Inner-listening and quieting sounds.
* Bio-feedback or performance.
* Tetra-chords and scale-gripping.
* Primary/secondary harmonies.
* Natural/individual hand positions.
* Hand movement and extension from center.
* Improvisation: repeats, variants, and something new.
* Technique, touch, and rhythm.
* Motifs and compositions.
* Work and play.
I am particularly interested in understanding how to distinguish these goals from music lessons or studying “how to play piano.” I propose offering sessions of 40 minutes and 90 minutes according to individual interests and needs, and I would appreciate your sharing my availability for this with others you know who may be interested.
TUNE IN to your Self with Piano or the instrument of your choice.

Jerry discovered the use of piano as biofeedback training for unwinding tensions associated with a congenital spasticity. He approaches the piano the way a priest kneels before an altar; what is sacred has yet to come. His left foot finds the floor and grounds him there as his right foot reaches the pedals. He exhales a breath he didn't realize he was holding and feels the release of tension in his chest. What he's playing is less important than the transformation inside, where breath, awareness, and intention direct his movement. He's more centered now, grounded in an inner world free of judgment for his physical limitations.He listens, he breathes, and then plays.Rebekah Green
