This ordinance is going to the Board of Supervisors most likely on January 24- https://www.sonoma-county.org/prmd/docs/AccessoryUnits/
They are moving quickly due to new requirements under State law. Any interested parties can send Misti Harris (PRMD Planner- [email protected]) a comment letter by January 13 so it can be included in the Board packet. Of course, public comment is always welcome right up until (and during) the Board hearing.
Rachel F. Ginis Executive Director with Lilypad Homes who has been working on this in Marin and now in Sonoma suggests that people lend their voice and request the Planning Commission and Board of Supervisors approve allowing both an ADU and a Jr. ADU on the same property at the same time. She also wrote that
"Richmond has just allowed for this. These two types of units serve different purposes as Jr. Units often accommodate a loved one, while ADUs allow people to create housing in unconditioned space that is completely independently from the main living area. These units tend to be rented out to others in the community in the interest of earning additional income for the family. Because of the new laws, we have a tremendous opportunity to create affordable, secure and stable housing."
