He brings proven leadership in Sonoma County specifically and northern California more broadly; proficiency in managing a wide range of human services; experience with our communities’ public servants, donors, volunteers and beneficiaries; and a life-long commitment to care for those in greatest need.”

As Executive Director of WCCS, Miller will oversee an organization that provides access to critical social programs to at-risk and vulnerable populations in western Sonoma County, including the small rural communities around the Russian River. Its services include counseling and support for seniors, adults, youth and children, employment training for those with disabilities and low-income youth and adults, a broad range of assistance for youth at-risk and first-time offenders, and, for the homeless, food, shelter and for some, permanent housing.

Miller has 14 years of executive experience, and managed five offices in six counties in his last six years with the American Red Cross. He was previously a Country and Regional Representative for ACCI/VOCA (Agricultural Cooperative Development International and Volunteers in Overseas Cooperative Assistance), working in Indonesia, the Philippines, Nepal, Cambodia, Vietnam and Azerbaijan. This followed from his two years as a Peace Corps Volunteer in the Philippines, after which he earned his Masters in Policy Studies at the Monterey Institute of International Studies.

Miller’s strengths in financial development and diversification, organizational restructuring, strategic planning and community partnerships earned the Highest Performing Chapter award for the California Northwest office of the American Red Cross. His 2015-16 work in the Philippines following Typhoon Haiyan generated citywide and regional awards for Lutheran World Relief. He also served as a board member of the Santa Rosa Sunrise Rotary and the Emergency Food and Shelter Board of Sonoma County.

Miller will fill the vacancy created by the June 20 retirement of Donna Roper, the current Executive Director. “The WCCS Board of Directors is indebted to Donna Roper, whose leadership and contributions have enabled West County Community Services to maintain its delivery of critical social programs,” Lewis said. ”We look forward to Donna's continued involvement with WCCS.”
