    Saving a Mustang's life

"the joy of being with horses, is that it brings us in contact with the rare elements of grace, beauty, spirit and fire."

Join with West County’s premier equine rescue, rehabilitation, and re-homing community, Well Trained Horses (WTH), and an anonymous donor, in sparing the life of a wild mustang who came “this close” to being carted off to a local auction and sold for transport to Mexican slaughter. The mustang, we’re calling “Lucky One", refused to board a horse trailer on the day he and two of his companions were to be brought to market the majority of horses are transported inhumanely, and meet a hellish death.
We have ten days to rescue this horse from his current custodian. Once a horse becomes a part of WTH, it is guaranteed a new lease on life free of fear, abuse or neglect. The BLM (Bureau of Land Management) is aware of the situation and is supporting us in our attempt to gain possession of “Lucky One”.

Well Trained Horses has re.homed 18 horses during the last 14-month period. We track these horses throughtout their lives, and will take them back if a home is not a wonderful match. Lucky's story is compelling. We have 11 horses that have their own stories who are in different states of healing, rehabilitation, training and finding the "best for life homes". We have done this on a shoe string, to rescue "Lucky", and care for these horses we need your help: time, donations, sponsor a horse, have plywood, 2 x's, quicrete you aren't using, or join us at Sunday's Bake Sale (see events at Pacific Market).
Your gift large or small, will be matched by an anonymous donor up to $1,500. The funds will go toward boarding, veterinary evaluation and care, hoof maintenance, a year of feed and supplements, methodical retraining and eventually finding this special animal a forever home.

for more ideas in ways you can help "Lucky One", or all of our horses, and support our work visit our website:

many thanks. Susan Jan Hornstein, Well Trained Horses, founder, Sebastopol (707) 829-3600
